I need a nice compact SLR bag to house the camera body and one mid-sized lens. I already have this one , but it's a schlep to carry it around, due to its size and the fact that all my accessories and lenses are stored in there. I want something that effectively is a "grab-and-go" bag. Suggestions?

FWIW, I use a Lowepro Slingshot 200 for my grab & go bag. Can take a couple of lenses, flash, batteries and other odds and ends. It's very convenient as you carry it like a backpack, but then sling it around in front of you, to get into the bag. There is a smaller and a larger version too.

I bought this one in Shanghai - I'd never heard of the brand name before, but regardless it's a really good quality one.

Lowepro make much the same thing.

I've got one like that Lowepro - in fact it might even be a Lowepro. I dont really care for it but it is useful when I'm putting the camera in the car or something. If I'm carrying the camera its generally not in a bag.

I also like to try to avoid advertising that I'm carrying a camera.

I've seen those yeah, but I was hoping for something along the lines of this . Unfortunately, they don't have stock and can't get any.

Looks like a codpiece

EDIT - Clearly I've thought this way before :D http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2055269&postcount=17

I love my sling-shot 200 when I go walking and hiking. But for urban walkabouts, I wouldn't want to have it on. I'm also looking to get a smallish shoulder bag for the SLR with a 24-105 attached and maybe an extra lens.

The crumpler bags looks nice.

I have the LowePro Toploader Zoom 2. It's deep enough for the 40D + 24-105L and the 10-20mm in the bottom.

That's hilarious! You should sell it to Crumpler

I got one of the Crumpler bags from Orms... very happy with it

I think its this one... http://www.orms.co.za/product.php?a=view&product=1324

I have this one too, or at least one of the Pretty Boys - the XXL I think. It can take the 40D with 24-105, the 10-20mm and the 70-300 with space for a few odds/ends. This one is my favourite (I have other Crumplers too...).

I handled the Crumpler Jimmy-bo 400 and the bag is perfect for that one lens fits all trips where you want to carry light.

Your lens can't be longer than about 110mm or it won't fit, even with the smaller DSLR bodies. So make sure you check the sizing with you kit before you buy.

I like that you can go over-the-shoulder or round-the-waist for carrying and its pretty well padded.
