SMART test - hard drive failure imminent

Pending sector count is nothing to stress about.

S.M.A.R.T is log based, there is no such thing as a false positive

In this case it isn't a false positive.

a backup must need done immediately.

If it was an SSD, S.M.A.R.T does give false positives, like wearout indicator, which will never go below 1, but the drive is 100%.

Log shows what is expected. Warranty replacement, print log file or screen shot plus SMART error message. If you can't replace it for some reason, there is the following procedure, you will know more if you can trust this drive and to what extend (primary storage or not important stuff like movies you can download again).

You did clone this drive to SSD, so backup is done. Fill up all sectors with zeros. Keep it idle for half an hour, then power off. Check SMART parameters, #C5 should be cleared up. Run scan again. Delays and error should gone. Check SMART whether is picking up #C5 again. If clear, then run your favourite random access read/write tests for few hours. If SMART reports non-zero #C5, or errors come back, then, you know, its finished.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes, I cloned onto SSD and now using that drive in my laptop, and faulty drive is in an external enclosure.

Will try for the warranty claim first.
