Smit back with the Sharks

Just in case anyone doesn't know yet

The Sharks have announced that Springbok captain John Smit , who has been playing for Clermont in France since the end of last year, has signed a contract with this year's leading South African Super 14 franchise for 2008 and 2009. He will therefore be available for the Sharks in the latter stages of the Currie Cup competition.

And apparently they're after Butch too ............ home of the best players and all that

yeah ........... the best captain the country's ever had is just wrong for the Stormers ........... lemme know how that brand of rugby turns out for you guys .... if you ever get to a semi that is

I'm more of a Stormers fan, but when I'm not watching them, Sharks are my other team (only because my one GF was from DBN and now my new GF is also from DBN)

They dont help you guys much in semis and finals do they

I have no doubt that Smit has leadership qualities but he is not the best hooker in the country (nor in Natal!). I was reading an article earlier by one of the top New Zealand rugby writers and he does not rate Smit. He did acknowledge that the SA players respected Smit though. He said PVM should not have selected him as captain at the start of the season either. The writer felt Jean was the best choice at captain. I do admire you banana boys being loyal to Smit(a Pretoria boykie) for all the years service he has given you. You were the same with Teichman but we have to move forward. Bismark should be first choice hooker. I hope he gets pissed off with Natal and heads our way!
