Smokers need not apply

By the way - I'm a non smoker, so this is a non issue for me :D
 
i just find it damm ironic that we're not allowed to discriminate against race, or sex, or take your pic... but we're allowed to discriminate against smokers...

I already go outside to smoke - i don't bother you. eat your breakfast at home and stop eating infront of me when i'm on a diet sitting at the office. just a example.. but yeah. i can just imagine what would happen if we where to discriminate against that?

a company with a policy like that, can suck my left chocolate salty ball....

Not by choice ..and therein lies the rub. Smokers choose to do that to themselves. THEY, the smokers, have chosen that path: no-one else around them, on whom they impose their vile fumes, has either made that choice or is left with one.

Nevermind that it is also, quite literally, an assault on the senses to be stuck in the same air as a smoker, it amounts to being assault in terms of the longer term health costs, by way of "passive" smoking that the nonsmoker is now saddled with, without having done anything more than be in the same area!
 
oh please... and what, are you going to ban cheap perfume as well then??? Are you going to fire anyone that silently sits at work letting off a fart? The odd person that happen to have missed a (few) days in a shower?

Smokers are part of society, and smokers have just as many rights as non smokers... It's not the fault of the smoker that the non smoker can't learn to deal with it.

A person CHOOSE to be gay. You fire that person based on him being gay... What happens? You get your ass kicked in court! No question about it.

What makes a gay different from a smoker? The smell? So esentially, you're not firing a smoker because he smokes, you are firing him because you CHOOSE that you don't like the smell. Well, who's the inconsidered a$$ now??? Hmmm
 
You're not allowed to smoke in offices so whats the frikken issue, my health is my concern, I knew quite of few PT instructors in the armed forces who'll kick anybody on this forum's ass on a 20 K run with full kitt.
Smoking fit as they called it.

Say what? A person does not choose to be gay. It's not like he/she wakes up one day and says: "I think I'm gonna try being gay for a while" ('cept maybe the metrosexual fad - that is a choice, and a stupid one at that). Interesting you wish to compare gays to fags tho :D

None of the above, while noxious and arguably unpleasant/not to one's taste are a proven health risk; so we'll just dismiss this part of your tirade.

NON-smokers are just as much a part of (the same) society, and have the right to NOT have their health compromisd by the choices of the puffing cretin next to them.

..maybe he's going for the whole "smoking hot" *groan* thing? (sorry, I have a terrible weakness for bad puns). Then, there's also the case for those who make the biggest noise protesting about homosexuality are the ones least able to come to terms with their own sexuality? :D

Good work EC. I support bdt's argument that people choose to be smokers - people can't choose their race/culture/gender/sexual orientation (on the last one go look on Wikipedia)

At least this will make the world 'in general' a healthier place to live in, which is a good thing.

Don't you think that your employer's ability to dictate your lifestyle ends when you go home? To the best of my knowledge (Debbie2, feel completely free to chip in and correct me) you provide your employer with your labour (whatever that may be), said employer pays you for said labour (there the contract ends). I have never seen a contract that would allow an employer to sack me because I smoke at home, watch too much television, have 3 beers instead of 2, hell if I decided to get blitzed on a Friday evening, etc, etc.

Does anybody else here think employers are having a wee bit too much their own way???
