Smoothwall: Banned IP - Custom Whitelist doesn't work?

Hi

Have the IP of a machine on the network as banned in Smoothwall's Advanced Proxy.

Have the following in the Custom Whitelist (allowed domains) of URL Filter:
download.windowsupdate.com
download.microsoft.com
update.microsoft.com

Microsoft Essentials gives a connection error on update. Also I am unable to go to any of the above in a browser.

Am I missing something?

Yes.

Try putting the IP address of said PC in the "Always allowed" box and see if it works.

Said IP might also be blocked by something else somewhere... It might also be a trojan blocking access to anything windowsupdate.

Have you checked the HOSTS file on the windows pc?

Found the problem - removed the banning under Advanced proxy and added a banning in the URL filter.

Works as required now .

Enabling the custom whitelist for banned clients in the URL Filter doesn't do anything if you banned an IP in the Advanced Proxy.
