Anyone pre ordered yet? Seems like it's only Raru who have it available so far.

I managed to order one from Amazon France as I'm in Europe just now and confirming a pre order is difficult everywhere here. Again the prediction seems to be a massive demand for a few consoles a la NES mini, but I'm wondering if the demand will be huge in SA like it is here.

Anyway, if anyone grabs a pre order, post details here please. Son is looking for one.

Saw it advertised in a musica pamphlet.

I'm not sure how it will pan out in South Africa, but there was a serious clamour for the NES mini in the US and Europe although it was fairly easy to get in SA.

But after the carry on trying to get a hold of said NES mini, it was inevitable that there would be a huge interest in the more popular SNES and they are disappearing from pre order here in minutes. And people are already advertising their unfulfilled orders here in the UK for twice the purchase price.

So yeah, I reckon Nintendo will increase the stock levels to accomodate, but good to grab one anyway while you can.

I'm not concerned about stock in SA. We've never had a problem getting Switches or NES Mini, despite chronic shortages in US and Japan. I'm keen to get the SNES Mini, it looks sweet.

Switch supply is levelling off in UK now at long last. I saw them in the one shop of the big UK chain of second hand gaming stuff for £340 just last weekend because no outlets had them. But now I see Amazon have stock at £280 so prices should start to drop.

It's just nuts how Nintendo can fsck this up so often, unless of course it's some kind of cunning plan :erm:

Well, I think the NES shortages were due to a lack of foresight that it would be in such high demand. Switch shortages are just chronic however - they're trying to ramp up supply but I think they're constrained by competition for flash memory, especially from smartphones. Hey at least it's better than the Wii U days when they couldn't give those things away.

Haha, fair point :D

Do you think they'll do a N64 mini? Man that would seriously see demand fly through the roof.

If they added support for higher resolutions, draw distances, framerates, etc for an N64 Mini, and sold it for $200 I'd buy it in a second. I was big into N64 emulation because it's so much better on a PC, and you can add texture packs and stuff. But if it's just basically the same games stretched out with no enhancements, it will look horrific compared to today's games. N64 games just do not hold up today.

What happens if you want other games? Buy the cartridges off eBay or something?
Or do they have some kind of online store?

Fair point. I've got a few games on my Homebrew'ed Wii and they do look pretty rough. To be expected I suppose with those early attempts at 3d gaming at a low res.

There's no provision for cartridges, it's basically an emulator in a small SNES looking box. But you could download and add extra games to the NES mini through a backdoor method, wouldn't surprise me if you could do the same on the SNES.

It's not an option. The NES Mini can be cracked and more roms can be sideloaded, but in terms of official channels, what you buy is what you get.

Yeah but it wouldn't take too much work to upres the games, especially if they have access to the source. They did something like that already when the ported OoT and MM to the 3ds - better textures, framerates and resolution. My dream list of games would be:

- Mario 64
- Zelda: OoT and MM of course
- Goldeneye and Perfect Dark
- Waverace
- 1080 Snowboarding
- Mario Kart 64
- Star Fox 64
- Pilotwings 64
- F Zero X
- Mario Tennis

That's a shame. I would have been willing to pay for quite a few games that aren't on the list. An online store accessed directly from the console would have been great...

Yep a lot of people would. Chrono Trigger is a gimme. Well there's always the Raspberry Pi+ZSNES option ;)

I've never enjoyed the Star Fox games, but good lord, I totally forgot about Perfect Dark :D

Also add...
Banjo Kazooie
Mario Golf
Pokemon Stadium

But I reckon if you sold it with *only* an HD Goldeneye, it would break records.

Came over to my folks place this weekend and found my original NES :D

Btw the price tag says R499.99. This was probably around 1988/89...
