Sorry I cannot offer advice, I do not know anything about the R-Pi, I've never even seen one. Only heard of it a few weeks ago :|

People usually buy a PI and then wrap it in an old GameBoy/etc enclosure (while running Mame etc).
Its cheaper, but obviously you need to spend some effort to get everything working.
