SNO expected before 2005/06 year end: report

would be launched before the end of the 2005/06 financial year
The South African financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March. This is just a surreptitious way to say that they won't be operational before then end of 2005 like they said they would.

Or by 2002 for that matter...

I think the SNO could simply be another 'Cell C' with the same rip-off prices.

Lets be honest with ourselves, Tata and Co are here to make money, and what better place to make money in Telecoms than South Africa they can enter the market with huge prices (matching Telkoms) and make some good quick money.

I think it will take atleast 5 or so years (unless there's government intervention) for pricing to come down through competition, and by then it will be too late.

Damn - another delay.

Before the end of the year now actually means before end of February 2006.

The SA financial year is 1 March to 28/29 Feb

This is SA guys. The odds of having SNO at any time of the year are... well lets just say i wont be holding my breath

Best remark was made in another thread... SNO in South African summer? Must be a miracle! :D

donaldza : As I have said over and over again in these forums, CellC was and is still cheaper than Voda and MTN. Yet they have hardly any subscribers. They were not rewarded for being cheaper. Therefor, Voda and MTN haven't bothered dropping their prices as they have been justified in charging what they do.

i've looked at their packages, and even when we get number portability, i will stick to MTN. i just prefer my current package.

sorry for going off-topic:o

andres101 : You would be quite correct. My girlfriend was with CellC. Though they might be cheaper, they have terrible service. She paid out the couple of thousand needed to cancel her contract and go to MTN (Though I still think Vodacom is better).

It is a case that some people care more about service than price. If price was important, people would move across no matter what. But it isn't quite as clear cut as that. Whilest I wish Vodacom would lower their prices, I am not really phased as I am very happy with my contract.

Come end of the year, we will see if people really care that much about price/hate telkom/etc and go through the pain of moving their companies to the SNO or rather just stick with Telkom

The SNO (tata) entered our car industry recently as many ppl know, they released a car with tons of features at an extremely low price (less than a tazz), the only prob was that no parts were available in za so if something broke, u had to sell an arm and a leg to replace the part.

and its obvious that our car market is in a similar state to that of the teleco industry. lets hope they play ball.

if i can keep my number and they give me a better deal then i'm in. If i can't keep my number then the deal must be even better, or the hastle is just not worth the move... I bet some people will move just in spite of Telkom.
