Yes you can, SL is big enough to warrant a fresh installation. In the installer go to disk utilities and format the drive. It's been reported that some feature's are missing after the upgrade. i.e. Photobooth, Effect's second window does not have the new feature of customizing the effect if the system has been upgraded instead of re-installed from scratch.

That's Apple's fault. They should fix that.

Logistics - SL upgrade version

So, just to be clear. Is it possible to walk into any authorised apple retailer and pick up a copy? You don't need serial numbers/proof of purchase of the macbook etc? Do you have to choose which version you get - i.e. do you specify upgrade version? Sorry for multiple questions, but not easy to go to a apple store for me and don't want a wasted trip....

Thanks
Mike

When I bought Leopard from ZaStore I didn't need to provide any proof.

There is no way for it to check the version if the HD has been formatted.

Then it's either the 'honor' system or it asks to insert the DVD which came with your Mac or your copy of Leopard.

My mate upgraded from Tiger to SL with no problems.

Ok, so you ask yourself why anyone would anyone fork out the extra $$ to upgrade from tiger if they can just upgrade from "Leopard" if you know what I mean.

To obey Apple's licensing? Or maybe they find value in the bundled software at a good price?
