Wasn't always there to monitor it, but when I did, yes. Given the download times I got for files started after ~18h, I rarely dropped below 35, if ever.
Well today MWEB shaped RS to about 50-60KB/sec on a 4Mbit line. RS is going at 250KB/sec now.

Cool. Do you need a paid server for Afrihost or is it the IS one? My past experience of IS was not good.... speeds used to spike.
Might have been due to the SEA-ME-WE 4 maintenance though? Or is that normal during weekends as well?
Paid server. Uncached on IS is rubbish. Cached items however (generally not older than 2 days) are pretty fast.
I think it's much slower than usually - usual weekend speed is about 100-150KB/sec on RS (even with 16 threads or 2 threads). Note that 1 thread does not yield to speed.

I will test the mweb one vs astraweb. Lance what i do with mweb is just worry about what i download in a day than worry about speed i get at certain times. Far as i have seen the mweb news server is just as fast but what i do know is i never think astraweb is slow for instance i know it is the account. When the mweb server is slow how do you know what is slow?

Yeah, I'll definitely play around a little this coming month. Just interested to see the Afrihost guys talking about speeds of 35+KB/s....
I just checked out my usage stats... 1.85Gb since about 7pm yesterday. Not bad. Not all downloads though obviously.

The biggest thing i reckon is seeing if the slow speeds are coming from mweb's news server or the account, unless you establish which one you are just guessing. Not that i am saying mweb is not the problem but if i come across problem i like to know what is causing them. Generally i have found local news servers to be slow at times which is why i rather spend 70 bucks extra a month on proper paid for services that you know will run 100% all the time.

I would imagine that would yield over 100GB/s a month if used 24/7. Total cost is R539 plus line rental (R139). R6-78 per gig all inclusive is not bad value at all. You effectively getting a 384kbps uncapped and unshaped account, by virtue of the 4096 parameter, for R678 per month... Sounds like a viable option...

Cannot connect to news.mweb.co.za. Hmmm i remember something about having to use an ip or something? what do i use for the mweb news server?

I'm just using news.mweb.co.za in Grabit on port 119.

It is connecting now haha i saw a couple saying cannot connect to mweb because i have like 20 connections setup and it can only do 4 or something. Getting 80-100kb/s on mweb 300kb/s on astraweb.

Speeds are the same throughout the day, just about full speeds like my saix account.
There was a lot of crap with AH in the beginning but I am really happy with my service now as I doubt I will go past 30gb again, and if I do I can live with 256kbps.

I think mostly afrihost got flack for their handling of the uncapped 200gb 60gb then 30 gb accounts. Not so much that accounts are limited just the fact that people felt lied to you i think.
It would have been very easy to make a post saying our network cannot handle this or that and we will make a loss so we need to do this or that. You cannot alienate and basically lie to your loyal clients. Honesty will go down far better than people finding out about their new T & C as they go along.
30gb for the price of afrihost is still a great deal, just a pity they handled it so poorly and threw their name away because they could have kept far more clients by being honest from start i reckon.

Yes, that was the most annoying thing. But it is still a pretty good deal and I think it will be suitable for a lot of users (not trying to download the web). And it is not 30GB anymore, the TCs has been updated. I assume they will be for next month.

AH is just too small to compete and afford to roll out uncapped products. That 30, 60 and 100GB thing is not uncapped - those are 30, 60 and 100GB accounts with no monthly roll over and they should be called as such. The word uncapped should not appear anywhere on AH website as these guys are just messing with people and cannot deliver an uncapped product. End of story.
