hi guys

after following the market for along time, keeping track of all the articles I took the plunge...

After much research and diliberation I bought the SuperTalent Ultradrive GX128GB

Im running windows 7 ultimate, and accoring to what I can find this drive needs NO firmware update, and no "refresher" tool as it was shipped with firmware 1819. See below

One of the original problems with SSD (and im talking the old drives here) was that they "stuttered", especially while navigating around my computer, and also there were some issues with IM's. This was resolved waaaaay back!

Last night I installed windows... in record time I might add :) I installed all my drivers as per normal. Nothing different.

Installed google chrome (hate IE), and you know when you type into google search it waits till you finished and then offers some options? Well I cant type in anything in one single fluid motion... It sticks all the way though. Like a jerking 286 without enough memory

What Im trying to figure out is if its google chrome + SSD that arent happy together, or if its the SSD that is the problem here.

Im beginning to think its chrome that is not optimized for SSD ?

If I try a google search in IE, no problem... If I type in a search window within youtube in IE, no problem... youtune within chrome, sticks!

I have the same version of chrome on this PC vs my other installation!

does anyone have any advice to offer?

you've answered you own question.

Stop using Chrome.

If IE works fine then maybe there is an issue or update for Chrome.

I have chrome on both my pc's with ssd's and don't have that problem, i still prefer firefox though.

Google search as in the one in the browser window (location/search bar) or the one on googles home page?

The one is database driven (the location/search bar). The SSD might have an effect on this, though unlikely.

The other (On google homepage) grabs the info live off the web, so its very unlikely that this is affected by the SSD.

The SSD optimizations that can be done in the application itself is very limited. The main optimizations are done at the OS level, and to a lesser extent during the database designing.

I'm pretty sure the cause is some slight difference in the way the OS is set up this time round. First thing I'd check is the gfx driver. A wrong gfx driver can exhibit those symptoms.

Chances of SSD being the cause is slim to none imo.

Remember that IE is an MS product, so it doesn't conform to much of anything. A lot of the time it just plain ignores the settings you selected for the OS (e.g. Cleartype). Chrome does not do this, so that might explain the difference between the two.

No idea about Win7, but check the Visual Effects. Those sometimes interfere as described. Screenshot Switch off everything there. Restart & see if it helped.
