So I went to Capitec

@Mike: I'm done with you. Nothing special? None Capitec clients really have a misconception about what their banks give them. You still haven't answered the question what you actually have to do to earn what you earn.

EDIT: You also missed the part about not doing any transactions to get it. How much ebucks will effing bee be giving me then?

So I can also pay R100 a month and get the same benefits you're getting like 40% discounts at various partners?

Yep. You'd need to make a few minor behavioural changes to your banking behaviour, some of which I mentioned earlier, to get to rewards level 5. But once you do it becomes second nature.

I'd tell you but you're done with me. Enjoy your circle-jerk...

Ok I see. You can't substantiate your situation applying to the standard person.

Like what changes?
Refer below. You only need 18,000 points, I'm way above that. So you don't need stuff like a home loan.

I would define behavioral changes such as swiping wherever possible, drawing cash at till where possible and using my credit card to swipe and then settling at the end of the month. Everything else I do anyway.

Look, it may seem like I'm being hostile, but I'm not. I'm just struggling to see the value that Capitec clients are raving about. You can get an equivalent product, and a wider range of products, at any of the other banks.

If you're getting great service then that's awesome, and certainly worth shouting about. But when somebody touts a paid sms notification as a feature, or interest earned from a R100k fixed deposit as a feature, then I will have a laugh about it. These aren't new things, and paid sms notifications is a rip-off IMO as even the most basic accounts at other banks have them for free.

Gold account?

Interesting.... all debit orders just went off on my Capitec account. So used to FNB running them at midnight and the SMS's flooding through during the early hours of the morning.

You get some benefit with the Virgin Money CC, it's 55 days interest free. So use the CC and pay it off with your debit card.

Anyone know what is the correct procedure to get 55days interest free on a cc? Put it all on budget?

From my experience they expect you to pay a minimum % each month on the bal owing and they charge interest on the outstanding bal, where's the 55 days interest free?

No delayed OTP SMSs, no SIM swap fraudsters, no waiting 2 days for internet transfers to clear.

You're suppose to pay the entire amount, not owe a balance.

It's not free... btw I think I would have 8500 points, what level will that leave me on?

My billing run is on the 11th of June (get statements the 12th or 13th). Now if I buy something on the 12 June, and swipe my CC for it, I don't pay interest until after the 6th of August (see I skipped the whole July there). The 6th of August is when the due date is.

So its UP to 55 days.

If I go buy something (fireworks and American flag?) on the 4 of July, I will have to pay it before 6th of August, so can go down close to like 30 days.

But on my fnb and blue bean cards if I don't pay a certain minimum each month they harass me, I settle them in full each month so it's not like they are expecting payment for money spent over 55days ago?

This has been bugging me for a while, I want money that is interest free for 55 days. I don't see how this can work, theoretically I could be keeping my cash in capitec earning 4% for 55 days at the credit card bank issuers expense, how lovely

Is it perhaps the budget facility that can utilizes the full 55 days?

To elaborate, you have an option to transfer a percentage of your ebucks to an interest bearing flexi fixed deposit account.

And everyone who was having a go at Mike, he showed you how he gets to RL5. Nothing ridiculous he had to do.

See here is the problem:
  • No credit card to exceed a limit on. Presumably I get one that would be quite easy to do. 2000 points
  • Use between 10% to 90% limit. Really going to be tough considering no transactions. 0 points
  • Swipe internationally or on-line. Is that per month? Most months 0 points
  • Additional products. Oh bugger probably another 0 points
  • FNB investment account. Another problem as my investment is with Capitec and I'm not going to move it to some lower tier product. Presuming I keep R2,500 in it 2000 points
  • Register inContact. 500 points
  • Gold Card swipes and till withdrawals > ATM and till withdrawals. Seeing as I won't have a gold card and make almost no transactions 0 points
  • Home loan or bond. 0 points
  • Average monthly spend on gold accounts over R500. 0 points
  • Account statements via e-mail. Can do that but what if I actually need a physical statement? 500 points
  • One year or more. Going to be tricky but presuming I stick it out for a year 2000 points
So 7000 points at most and for that I'll be paying R100 and get less interest. What tier and what rewards will that get me?

See my post. Mike doesn't make out the majority of clients.
