So I went to Capitec

To take out the credit card they need to verify I work where I work. Are my salary deposits and payslip not enough? Paid R55 for a new card and it still doesn't have NFC. Moved over to the app since they can't be bothered to add keyfob support to it.

Not sure what the hold up with verifying where you work is. A phone call from the bank to your HR department could solve that.

Capitec don't offer NFC cards. I think paying to replace an expired card sucks, but Capitec saves me money in many other ways.

I didn't know that keyfobs were discontinued. Last I heard you could choose the app or keyfob. The app has more functionality and the keyfob has to be paid for.

I still won't take out a Capitec credit card as Virgin Money is free.

Work not open on weekends so have to go back on a weekday. VMCC is grinding my gears with their stupid card that expires every two years. How hard is it to give me a card that only expires after 5 years? Don't want to pay currency conversion fees buying crypto and stuff anymore.

Yes, the process as will most other credit requires that your employment be verified. This requires a call to your HR department. I also needed to go back the next day to pick up my card, as HR had left by the time i arrived at the Capitec branch. Still faster than any other card I applied for in the past.

Virgin Money sends me a new card for free, so I don't see the hassle.

Looks like you just have to wait for your Capitec cards, it shouldn't take more than a day.

And then you get people that will bitch if the card doesn't expire every two years. Negative much?
It's actually much safer if it expires every two years, instead of 5.

Don't see people kicking up a storm at the banks. Doubt it's safer. If your details get leaked you have to cancel the card anyway and order a new one. Just a schlep wrt delivery, changing your payment details everywhere (Google, Netflix, Showmax, ISP etc.).

OK, I'll raise the Viceroy issue. How serious is this and should we take our money out?

Why take your money out?

At worst, if there are any truth to the report, investigations by regulatory agencies could take a few years to complete and they will be fined. They will just pay the fine and move on with business as normal. If they cannot pay the fine and the reckless lending do come back to bite them in the a$$, I am sure they will be bought out, probably by one of the new upcoming competitors.

So if there is a run on the bank, is there no chance of them putting in measures to stop capital outflow and thereby restricting access to clients pulling out 100% of their funds? I'm asking out of curiosity
