Hey guys,

so vodacom is expensive as hell and sucks for gaming... that you all know by now, but i'm not hear to complain...

I want to find out, if i get a 4mbps line and isp from telkom, can i buy axxess prepaid unshapped and use it on the line or something. I have no idea on adsl so i want to make sure what i'll be able to add or do to improve gaming.

and I want to find out, this telkom R60 a month free music and movie downloads, does it use local cap???

thanks alot!

The telkom music thing and local cap nobody seems to know because nobody actually seems to be able to enroll for it. I have tried about 4 times, and it just does not seem to be possible to actually enroll for it.

I'll try again today, and I'll ask them at the same time to find out for me if do.music is locally hosted.

The 384kb/s, 512kb/s and 4Mb/s ADSL lines from Telkom is not restricted to any ISP. You can use any ADSL ISP you want on that line.

Get your ADSL line rental from Axxess, they much cheaper than the telkom line rental.
You can also use any ISP on their lines.

And as always , " Do NOT SIGN A CONTRACT " . With the seacom cable finished , prices are going to start fluxxxing very soon ;) . Use a WA 10 or 30 gig local acc to start things off with + one of those Axxess after hours unshaped accounts. Great value + works very nicely.

When I wanted to appy for an ADSL line from Axess their web site stated that they could not take any new orders because of the Telkom backlog. Instead I bought a Do Broadband 1 package from Telkom. I got a 384 kb line with 1 gig bandwidth (for some reason they give me 1.5 GB before capping) at a cost of R199. This compares favourably to the Axxess offer.

I then buy any additional bandwidth that I need from Axxess. I have a local prepaid, a 626 prepaid and a shaped bandwidth prepaid account. I switch between them depending on my needs and when the Telkom account is capped. I also use routing tables to make sure that local routes consume local bandwidth only.

I have had no problems with this system for the last few months.

Also bear in mind that Telkom's local bandwidth (in my case 10GB) only kicks in once blended use has been capped. This means that I have to use my Axxess local prepaid at the start of the month until the Telkom cap kicks in. But it is quite cheap at R12/GB. Once the cap kicks in, I switch accounts and use Axxess for international bandwidth and Telkom for local. I also use this opportunity to download microsoft updates and software to optimise usage of my funds.
