Yeah you might be able to get 14 or 15Mbps BUT just as a note there is something on your line causing noise.... I think your SNR is too low for your attenuation. I have 39dB attenuation which put me +- 2.6km from the exchange and you are +- 2 or 2.1KM so your SNR looks slightly high to me.

Ah I see.... Just had a problem from yesterday whereby I'm getting frequent disconnections....

Is most likely related to your low SNR reading. Faulty connection somewhere or moisture on a connection or something like that. it could also be your filter.

BTW sorry your SNR is too low for your attenuation not to high as my previous post.

I still feel its a bit low but it could also be because you are syncing at 10Mbps. Anything above 10Mbps then the SNR really takes a dive down. Telkom has the fail safe so the speeds won't increase beyond a point that would put your SNR below 6dB so you need not worry that when you upgrade that your line might drop. I'm pretty sure it won't because I have the same setup as you just I'm a bit further from the exchange than you.

I'm getting 13.3Mbps sync rate so I'm sure you are looking at atleast 1Mbps or 1.5Mbps more than me. Still worth it if you take a bundle from telkom or transfer your line to Vox price wise. Not so much if you intent to keep the line unbundled and with Telkom because its might be a bit pricey.
 
Well today was day 2 with DSL no connection at all... waiting for Telkom tech guy to pitch up and assist. I'm quite keen to find out what the issue could be.

Okay thanks for the info, my line is currently with RSAweb and this is the question I asked and the response I got from them:

Me: Hi

Please upgrade my line to a 20MB connection and sync it at 15MB or so to ensure that it is stable. (Don't want any disconnections)
Also please ensure that it is on the ADSL2+ profile and not VDSL as I don't have the required modem to support it.

We confirmed with Telkom that you would need to VDSL router in order to get 15Mb. We need to set your line on 20Mbps then sync it down to 15Mbps as it still falls under the VDSL category.

Am I missing something? Or do they not know what they are doing because as far as I know, you can get 20MB on a normal modem/router as long its on an ADSL2+ profile?

Yeah sadly you have people in support that do not know what they are talking about. You just need to have a order placed for 20Mbps. If your area does not support VDSL but the exchange supports 20Mbps then you can just place a order for 20Mbps and it would automatically be upgraded to the up to 20Mbps profile which does not need ANY tech to change anything at the exchange. Its a simple profile change. You just need to insist on them placing the up to 20Mbps order with telkom. They do not have to change ANY sync settings to get it to 15Mbps they just need to change it to a up to 20Mbps adsl2+ profile and then your line will sync at the max and stable rate.

Thanks, I copied your response and told them it was from a Telkom tech. Their response was "Your request will be processed."

I wish Telkom weren't so bloody useless.
Their site says I can get 40Mb, Telkom techie says I can get 26 comfortably.

Get Telkom to setup my new account, "sorry sir your modem is off ao we can't do the change over"
My modem is always on.

I tell them this and now they say my line may not be capable of getting the speeds so they need to look into it.

Response after yesterday from RSAweb:

Telkom ADSL line requested to be upgraded manually.
Our Telkom portal states:The speed selected ( 20480 ) is currently not supported in the DP where the end user is situated.
The max speed in the DP is ( 10240 ) therefore please select a lower speed.
I will request this manually as you have liaised with a Telkom consultant who advised you differently.
Please do keep in mind that to receive any feedback it will take up too 48 hours - business days.

That's the problem. If you are linked to a MSAN/ISAM they will not offer you ADSL2+ but will only offer VDSL.

Ah I see, they could of just explained this to me in the 1st place. What confuses me is that Telkomza said I could get 15MB on ADSL2+ when i PM'd him last month

Ask TelkomZA to confirm whether your telephone number is linked to a DSLAM or a MSAN/ISAM.
