Eldest is turning 6 this year, and she wants a fairy princess castle cake. Too expensive to have it made, so I am gonna make it myself.

General idea is to decorate a space we have as a 'castle' by draping pink and purple cloth as the walls. I want to cover the floor as well, as it is actually the piece of cement where the kids play cars, and it has a car map painted on it. The tables I am going to cover with pink crepe paper. I am going to secure some small stones onto the corners of the 'tablecloth' with elastics, to keep the wind/breeze from blowing it off. I want to cover the chairs with crepe paper too, so everything will be either pink, purple or white (theme colours). I also bought some pink, white and purple streamers that will be decorating the tables and the walls.

I will be hanging fairy lights up too, just to make it look more pretty. And will use her pink mosquito net as part of the throne. It will be secured. to one of the beams at the top and a plastic chair will be placed inside it. Will cover the chair with material to match the theme.

Goodie bags will be made from brown paper (got loads lying around and want to use it up). The kids will then decorate it with pretty princess etc. home-made stamps:

The goodie bags will contain the following: pink fairy pencil and matching eraser and small notebook; Barbie marshmallow eggs and Barbie chocolate coins.

I also bought some of those Manhattan "princess candies'. It is equivalent to those milk bottle sweets, but in pink, purple and white and in all kinds of princess accessories shapes.

The kids attending will be asked to come dressed up as a fairy/princess or a combo, whichever they choose. Each child will receive an old-fashoined "princess hat". You know the kind the princess used to wear in some fairy tales? The long cone shaped ones. Will put some shiny foil paper at the top and the brim will have some tinsel around it.

I will do the kids' faces, and they will also play kiss the frog prince. Same line as pin the tail on the donkey, except it will be a picture of a frog prince, and kids will each get a pair of lips to stick on. And each child will get an invite in the form of a scroll inviting them to attend the "royal ball".

The cake I will make myself, gonna attempt to make a white choc mousse cake. Surely it can only be the same as brown choc mousse cake, but substitution milk chocolate with white chocolate?

Any more ideas to make this a more fun-filled day?

I think you have enough ideas to furnish the next three birthdays like :D Seriously, what else can one comment when every base is covered, in triplicate :p

Let us know what you think of the price after you've made one. I think it's just one of those things that sounds expensive until you do it, next birthday I bet she's getting a bought cake...

I can see this going down really well with the little boys attending :D

If a cake works out too expensive, you could try for cup cakes. No child is going to eat more than 2 max (speaking from my little ones b-day). Depending on the amount of kids, you could stack them too look like a castle and then just add some decor (eg. liquorice allsorts for windows / doors).

As to the other posters here that broke out of their usual threads ... /facepalm

Already had a castle cake priced. Was quoted R600, and it is a plain sponge cake covered with ganache and plastic towers (the towers have to be returned).

I hate buying cakes. I don't even buy cake for us to eat. And thus far, I have baked both my kids bday cakes every year, and received compliments on the look and taste.

I used to bake to sell, for extra income. But it is not worth it right now. Electricity is too expensive

I was thinking of making the cupcakes as an alternative and not buying them.

...i'm sorry but the princess is not in this castle

I don't mind making cupcakes. I did that last year, and I have a nice stand to put it on. But this year she specifically asked for a cake. Sponge cake is very easy to make. So is chocolate ganache (a lot easier than plastic icing. that stuff gives me nightmares :D)

Sounds like my kind of party.. :)
I'll post some Idea's now.

My mother Baked me a fairy cake.. I'm gonna look for pic's..

Sounds cool, I think you have covered everthing!!

Maybe find more games for them to play, or get a jumping castle.
*Musical thrones (musical chairs)
*Pass the castle (wrap a gift up in a castle shape somehow... maybe have like 5 gifts, 1 big one and four smaller ones for the turrets)
*Musical statues - have waltzing music
