Hi all,

Finally got coverage (at my gf's place) and want to know, which ISP do I go with. I checked Webafrica, Mweb, Telkom, Vox and all the prices are relatively the same.

1) Which will be the better ISP to go for, that offers Telkom FTTH. Or are there others not listed above?
2) Which will get it installed the quickest?

Your valued input will be much appreciated.

How much data do you use before 12:00?

I'm on fibre and running a CW home capped account. Absolutely fantastic. The uncapped midnight data is also pretty snazy - though this is offered by many ISPs these days. Very little you cannot download at 10MB/s in a 6 hour window.

I have had no issues with Telkom.

Some ISP's limit the amount of monthly "uncapped midnight data" (e.g. Web Africa 100GB + 1000GB), whereas Telkom does not.
Also some are from midnight to 6am, whereas Telkom is 7am.

Thanks for the replies. Well, from what I see, everyone (inc Telkom) is selling 100GB +1000GB night bundles. I rate I can get by on 100GB day time, it is just for normal work/surfing/etc. 1TB 6 hours a day...will do just fine :)

I am trying to avoid Telkom like the plague. 3 and a half months, no ADSL at my gf's place, follow up weekly, their service is just a **** as when I used them 5 years ago.

@OP, are you happy signing a 24 month contract with those ISP's? From what I know, only WebAfrica offers month to month for the line itself.

I won't be paying, so I don't really care, lol. 24 months is understandable, considering the capital outlay of laying fibre. Sure it will be fine, but I can't remember hearing much praise for Web Africa.

Must have change then. Mine is totally uncapped between midnight and 7 am (theoretically you could do about 3TB a month on 40Mbps line lol).

With the price of harddrives nowadays, no ways I'll be able to keep up!

Telkom is month to month on their fibre. Think they changed back in November already.

I have my line rental with WA and my data with CW.

Zero issues.

How long did it take for line to get installed after ordering? What was the process? I ordered from WA 2 weeks ago and still waiting.

I was lucky. Took 10 days from date of order to complete functional install. Only reason being that someone else cancelled and I was bumped up. They have limited technicians and an install takes an entire day to do...or two depending on how the line has to run into your property and home.
Please excuse my ignorance, CW is who?

Say what, Telkom had a door to door in December in our area and said that there are no month to months, just 24 months??? Sneaky buggers

Their offer is still 24 months, no clue why. Other ISPs have it at month to month now. It's funny how Telkom pressed us to take their offer saying the other ISPs will not be able to do a better job.

Thanks.

Was hoping it wouldn't take too long because I go back to varsity on the 25th (my birthday also fml). Seems as I will be be back before I get it now unfortunately. Also I'm in PE which is fairly new to have fibre and only in a few areas.

But as long as it's worth the wait I'll be happy.

Was there any penalties in cancelling your WA data portion of the package? I've had my data portion downgraded to 20Gb (which I'm not even using) and I've switched to using an Afrihost 200Gb account cause the shaping on WA is just terrible.

Never had to take data. Just took the line straight up.
