So what does LTE mean for you?

So how come vodacom can get LTE going but they can't get a proper account cap going? (With more warnings besides just "costs are now being deducted from your call account")

Then they cant cash in on you, especially now with LTE speeds :P

My point exactly, they are being irresponsible with the amount of throughput vs price being put on the table here. People can get ruined by this, I don't like what's going on here, and to hear Vodacom's reps getting excited about this financial death funnel is disturbing.

Couldn't you file a complaint with the CPA over this? I am really serious, people are going to get hurt by this, there are many users who will just think their Youtube is "clearer" when in reality, that thing is pumping down insane amounts of data at 1080p? Surely this should be governed better?

And at R2.00 out of bundle or whatever the hell that means?! lol, How are you even posting here Jannie? People could be financially ruined by this, doesn't it bother you in the slightest????

The technology and accounting departments of mobile operators are not the same. I see trouble coming.

I'm hoping for better or at least more consistent latency and less packet loss compared to 3G. Even though with 3G the pure download speed is fine, if they sort out latency, it'll feel way faster just browsing websites and makes it a decent replacement for ADSL for latency sensitive things like online gaming.

I ran the math a 10gig linux distro would take between 26mins (at 50Mbps) or 13mins (at 100Mbps), and will cost you R20 000 , so R20 000 for 13 to 26 minutes of pleasure, can think of a lot of other uses for R20 000 , you can get a entire year on ADSL at 10meg uncapped and still have enough small change to upgrade your pc.

PS you can calculate download speed here http://www.numion.com/calculators/time.html

10gig linux distro? What distro is that???????????? Also...why would you download it without a data bundle? But yes...lets hope that data prices comes down more.....as they have been over the years.

Its just a example Ockie, but I think you know what I mean, data prices have come down a bit over time, but its nowhere near what it should be to support this sort of network, most people still use 1 to 2 gig data contracts from the mobile isps, my point is just if some one accidentally goes over the line, you can see how the huge bills will rack up very very quickly on this new network.

OH ok. I understand. I would also like nice big caps on LTE....but guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

It has been said previously though that speed wont change peoples behaviour on the networks. So...you not going to find people streaming HD Video....because they know it is going to use a lot of data. Behaviour will change when the caps change I think....not the speed. Speed will be a facilitator...not a initiator to that behaviour switch I would say.

But yes....lets hope LTE brings bigger caps. I think the operators will however first wait and see how the economics pan out of the LTE networks before they make a move in this regard.

I agree, I would love to see a 50 to 100gig cap on the new network :), or better yet a 100gig that throttles down as you use it, at a affordable rate :)

Most people wont change there behavior, but there is always the hand full of people that do it accidentally, I am sure you heard the old, my little brother was on the internet now I have a huge bill, or I didnt look at the file size, etc.. etc...
