So you think you fat

I really find it fascinating that I respond to exactly what someone says and then I get told I am missing the point! ha ha

Anyway bottom line is you can apparently be well within your definition of muscular and still be well within the accepted norm for BMI. No further need to argue.

*sigh*. Not necessarily. Frankie was a slightly taller man and a man with a VERY low bodyfat %...also when you are shorter your BMI calculations become even less forgiving:erm::)

EDIT for Lancelots edit: Yes...you are linking to Olympic athletes....Asafa is also TALL. And I agree...you can be muscular and fall within the accepted range. But BMI is a very Basic measurement which is why it isn't used for much other than a very general overview.

Not too far out - I know I must lose 12 kg's... (106 to 94)

BMI is highly inaccurate, BMI does not take into account your bone framework, muscle versus fat count etc

Guys, it is an indicator... no one said it was an exact science... but I can almost guarantee that most of those saying how useless it is probably have highish BMIs.

And further bad news is that underwriters use it for insurance purposes. Hence them asking your height and weight on an application. If it is too high they will request a GPMR or SMR....

lol I'm an athlete and my trainer told me yrs ago that going by BMI is nuts because it doesn't take into account your actual physical make up. I'm taller than he is but he weighs 82 kg at 5'7 which would at first glance make him seem fat right ? Well he doesn't seem to have any extra fat - seen him without the shirt on, good set of abs, strong legs, muscular etc

And maybe we KNOW that we are not what our BMI value is trying to tell us...no? This does not hold true for everyone but definitely does for some of us Lancelot something which you seem to fail to realise.

You're probably right, I'm sure it is those of us who have higher BMIs that are saying it's useless. But that's not us making excuses, it's because we are living proof of what everybody knows anyway - BMI is rubbish. Invented in the 1800's - it is highly inappropriate to diagnose individuals.

Ok, what happens if your BMI is 16.7, and you're around 12KG's under your ideal weight?
Visit a reputably McDonalds near you. Three times a day preferably. Till you reach your target weight or till a doctor puts you on cholesterol pills.

using the BMI, you're 12 kgs under or ?????

don't put on weight using junk food. the chemical crap and hormones in today's meat/chicken products is horrifying. Eat healthy and try to load on stuff like pasta, but make sure you work out regularly so it's proper.
you don't want to get fat, you also need to bulk up properly without using protein shakes which aren't from an organic source, these otherwise harm you more than do anything else. Avoid stuff with soy, most of it is GM so you're getting too many female hormones which have been tampered with

do you know how many calories you take in on a daily basis ? Generally it is said that if you eat 500 cal more than what you're currently eating and maintaining your weight with, you'll put on.

Not really sure why, but I eat shyte loads and remain the same weight... I eat about 4-5 times a day till I'm full and still sweet f$*@-all... sigh... I can't imagine being this underweight being healthy by any means.

how's your health otherwise ? do you get stomach cramps at times ?

not really, but starting yesterday I got this extreme pain in my chest, around where my heart is... otherwise I'm quite healthy (just recently went for a check up, and apart from the smoking,my blood tests were 100%)

colon pain most likely, dude you are probably just tall the BMI favors short people and should not be used as a indication...

I was asking about the cramps because sometimes people have tape worm which absorb all their nutrients.

Is there no diabetes in your family tree or heavy metal poisoning (lead / mercury perhaps ?) how tall are you and what's your current age and weight ? Do you drink hard liquor ?

No Diabetes, No cancer, no heavy metal poisoning, there is depression on my mom's side of the family though :p. (as for the tap worm, I doubt I would have come in contact with the parasite).

I'm 1.97meters, 18, 65 kg's. I don't really drink that much...

tape worm from pork, smoked salmon. do you have a very active lifestyle ie always physically running around and what's your typical meal plan per day looking like at the moment *include junk food if you eat this* ?

Scotty, you're still young - the weight will come, and then you'll wish it'll go!!!
