Hi Everyone,

I have been using http://www.nchsoftware.com/invoice/index.html for generating my quotes for clients.

However, the trial has expired. I only need something to generate quotes. I do have an excel template but I'd like to have something simple to capture/record and pdf quotes. This is the only thing I will need. So essentially, I am looking for something open source or freeware.

I considered developing this myself as a windows or mvc app. However, that doesn't excite me nor tickle my fancy.

Any suggestions are welcome.

You can also look into some of these cloud services, i.e.:

https://www.zoho.com/invoice/index.html ---> also free with limitations.
http://getharvest.com ---> there is "free for life" upgrade option as long as you are 1 person

Both can generate quotes, they don't always call it "quotes", they call it "estimates" etc.

The good thing about services like above (there are more, just search around) is they have Mobile Apps and are cloud based so you can use them anywhere on any device.

Also note, this is not an "Accounting" package, it's specifically for invoicing/quoting/project time&expense tracking . So i have found it much easier to just get things done than using a full blown accounting package. Obviously if you are running a business then you should be using a proper accounting package somewhere, but if you're just doing odd jobs and want to still be professional about it then above is more than enough.

Pastel my business online isn't too bad either at R150 per month for 2 companies. Not free but then you can take care of other accounting tasks.

Thanks guys!

@diabolus - I didn't realise that they are called estimates. Thanks a lot :)

I signed up for Waveapps a week ago and am still finding my way around things. Now that I know estimates are quotes, I'm all good :D

@Nic77 - I had a look at this and was pretty happy with the offering. Just wasn't able to justify using pastel at this point in time since I'm mostly freelancing for 2 clients and wouldn't use a quarter of the features. Will look into it again back down the line.

@Flidiot - Are you also using waveapps? I'm fairly new at using it but it seems to cover most of my needs for now.

Nope, using Pastel MyBusiness Online. I played around with Wave for a while though while deciding what I would rather use. It is pretty awesome - absoultely nothing against it at all. Pastel was just a better fit for me. :)

Express Invoice is a trial, but Express Accounts (from the same company) is free for companies with less than 5 employees. Try downloading it from Download.com

Works brilliantly for me. Been using the free version for over a year. Very easy to use and understand. And you can create quotes easily

Try harvestapp.com, we use it and it's BRILLIANT! They have a free version for one user, and you can send your quotes as emailed PDFs (and receive payments via credit card online) if you'd like.

Yep, using that too.

I don't know waveapps, but main reason i'm using Harvest is because of the timesheet and time recording functionality. For me it's quite important to be able to log time against tasks/projects and then end of the month i just generate an invoice. So Harvest have a mobile app where you just clock your time or start a timer which syncs to the web .

Thanks for input everyone.
@Boris Becker - also thought it was free since I am a 1 man band at the moment. I'll try downloading it from download.com.

Might also try out Harvest.
