Hi guys is there a good software package that does this instead of using Google drive?
I recently have had issues where my phone screen cracked, been such a bloody mission to backup fully with videos and photos due to size, have tried to delete what I can but need most of it for work.
Then you try restore it and half the bloody stuff isnt restored.
Isnt there a way to back it up onto a drive locally on your PC and then restore what you want?
Surely there has to be an easier way?

Restore from a local backup
If you want to use a local backup, you'll need to transfer the files to the phone using a computer, file explorer or SD Card.

To restore your backup:

Download a file manager app.
In the file manager app, navigate to your local storage or sdcard > WhatsApp > Databases. If your data isn't stored on an SD card, you might see "internal storage" or "main storage" instead. Copy the most recent backup file to the local storage's Databases folder of your new device.
Install and open WhatsApp, then verify your number.
Tap RESTORE when prompted to restore your chats and media from the local backup.
Note:

Your phone will store up to the last seven days worth of local backup files.
Local backups will be automatically created every day at 2:00 AM and saved as a file in your phone.
If your data isn't stored in the /sdcard/WhatsApp/ folder, you might see "internal storage" or "main storage" folders

its such a bad system, you should be able to do it locally and decide which backup you want.

Yeah, but it makes it much harder for them to read your messages when they not syncing the plain text copied to Google.

Just copy the media folder to somewhere, set up a backup app to copy it automatically to wherever at the interval you want.

When you need a piece of media it's all neatly named and stored by date. Much easier finding something that way than scrolling through chats

you should be able to do it locally and it should be a lot easier, its a very flawed system for some reason

There is no “some reason” about it, it’s 100% intentional. Online backups are stored in plain text, Facebook removed both backup encryption and local backup within the first year of having purchased WhatsApp.

It is perfectly true that messages you send and receive are encrypted and they cannot read those.

Backups are plain text, they CAN read those.

You are the product and in order to better make money off you they need to better understand you, and to better understand you they need to read your messages and in order to read your messages they need to back them up online and in plain text, if it was not backed up online how would they get a copy for themselves to add to their personality matrix if you which they use to more accurately target ads towards you?

They are in no way shape or form trying to make your life better or easier, they trying to make money off you…
