factor in that your water will never get down to below 45 in an electric geyser, even in winter
Even if you heat up and then use a timer , it never loses more than a few C

I'd love to have your geyser! If mine doesn't turn on after the girls have showered in the evening it's bloody cold by the time i shower in the morning.
 
Standing water wont drop much correct , but I don't know about your house, but water in the geyser will not stay in the geyser indefinitely, as soon as anyone opens a hot water tap cold water will flood in to the geyser and the temp will drop.
so even in the best scenario you heat the water up in the day and shower only at night , the next day that water will be an Icey cold <20C (well now in winter summer a decent<30) - so that element will need to warm that water up
LOL . The water in the geyser never gets that cold . You are physically unable to use all 150L . Your shower /bath will get cold long before you even get half way . The body tells you it is cold when you hit body temperature. I estimate at worst you MAY get to 40C

@Speedster - If that is what you need to tolerate to save some power , then rather look at an instant hot water solution imo

I used to have a 200L, but usage patterns didnt work for me , so I changed

You must have mixer taps in your house. There's a rule in this house that the hot tap is not to be touched. Wash your damn hands with cold water.

So how long did you run the water to get there ? SHower/Bath ?
Where in South AFrica are you ?

I don't think you understand how a geyser works internally. Hot water comes out the top, cold enters at the bottom. You use the hot from the top while there's cold running in the bottom. The observable water temp obviously gets colder as you use it, but it gets a lot colder afterwards once the cold water has mixed with the remaining hot water.

Congratulations on getting your water temperature lower than the ambient temperature ....

you must be the exception pretty much anyone here if everyone at home uses water it will drop that low in winter (some places even lower)
we don't all live in Hothazel with ambient water temps of 40C in winter

It's not the hand washing that's the "problem" ;) I don't mind my girls using the hot water to shower/bath - it's what it's there for. My point was simply that when they're done the water is significantly lower than 45 degrees.

Also in Gauteng . Last night ambient was 16 to 19C at 8pm . You posted a pic of 16C. Makes me wonder where you actually put the temp pickup for the tuya
If you had just showered, even with cold being fed in at the bottom you would have quit long before then because it was cold.
When I still used a 200L geyser even after multi people used it the average it went down to was 30 to 35

Doesnt change the fact that PTC is better tech than resistive based tech. But to each his own.

Also you dont seem to understand how PTC components actually work.

This kind of breaks down your argument that PTC will take far longer to heat up water under a certain temperature.
Quite the opposite. Under a certain temp the internal resistance stays fairly low , in other words allowing a higher amount of current to heat which is fairly stable until a temperature reference point is met , after which the internal resistance increases lower the power consumed.
A far safer tech all round compared to resistive heating.

Yes, but my point was when people open the mixer tap that is set to 50/50 for who knows what reason (it looks pretty with the handle in the middle?) 50 times a day just to get cold water all the time anyway, will also have an affect.

Sure, we are not savages, I like my showers nice and hot too.
