A few of my questions have been steam rolled:

I'll point them out -

They're going to make a fortune off policy penalties and the like.

I wonder if they'll all go through with it. It's one thing to say "yaar, yes, lets stick it to the man" but when it comes to actually transferring debit orders, the losses incurred with insurance/retirement policies I'm sure quite a large number of them will think otherwise.

I will never deal with ABSA again....

had a student loan with them. They took money when they wanted to. I complained at that time i was not earning much & having them take what amount they wanted to 2-3 times a month was just to much. I complained. They said that I should ensure that there was no money in my account for 3 months as that is the number of extra payments they took. I did this (was a pain in the butt drawing my money before the debit order date & then to rebank afterwards. End of the 3rd month came. I went to deposit my money again & got told my account was closed coz of insuff. funds for deit order.

:wtf: i was following their instructions. i refused to open another account there & walked to another bank & opened a new account.

have also had some issues using their ATMs. There's no way you can withdraw R100(for agument's sake at 10:01). The R100 then shows twice on your bank account & then on investigation the R100 was done twice @ 10:01. It takes longer than a min to draw cash....

to many bad experiences.

They are truly pathetic and mediocre.

I got an SMS asking me to collect my new credit card and to bring along my proof of income and proof of address. Why?? I am RICA compliant, you don't need that again!

About 2 weeks after I collected the card (which they gave without asking the things mentioned in their SMS), I get another SMS asking me to collect the same card. No cross-communications between branches and the card division!!

So it seems like FNB is the bank to be moving too? (for Joe Public, not solidarity)

How's about an option on the poll: I've already left ABSA. Please?

You had to pay to get it closed?
Good thing that as I worked for them a few years ago, I knew that after 3 or more months they'd automatically close mine ;)
At no cost to me. Fsck 'em!

Yep.. i paid extra to get it closed.. just hearing the name ABSA is making me bitter, wonder if they realise they are losing so much clients..

Also left ABSA recently. I have huge debit orders that use to cost more than 30 bucks each. Every month it was adding up to +-R700. Now with Capitec I pay no more than R50 on the same transactions. What is even better I get the R50 back in interest earned(I keep a positive balance). I also like the fact that with Capitec I have one account unlike with ABSA, I can save on the same transactional account...

The only downside with Capitec is their Internet Banking. I am so used to paying bills online and they don't have that option.
