Solving your own Telkom problems

..or what Telkom has had for years - Solve your own Telkom problems.

So like what Dstv had for years now?
It's one of those IWBIWISI situations. With ASSIA in play how can they give us access to do port resets and speed adjustments? It will probably be an update of that troubleshooting powerpoint file, i.e. check all your connections, check your router settings, reboot your devices, do some speedtests/tracerts, etc.

That is what they find on many of the callouts that their techies attend to... Maybe they will now retrain those techies to do proper fault finding and how to actually repair physically network faults.

Does this mean I can rip out the line to my exchange and put a new one in ..... and while I am at it, move the exchange close to my house?

Found mine on top right here .

I have respect for any Telkom techs working in areas with boxes like this. It's basically like those servers you never clean because unclogging the dust would cause more problems.

FIX ME !

Found mine on top right here .

How often do you walk past that abortion ?
Had one a bit like that here
I went and saw the regional manager personally and told him about it.
They did actually come by and fix it up
THIS is what it means to be a CITIZEN -- you also have responsibilities
Go see your regional manager and get them to FIX that abortion !

*cough* I think that is one he had to fix himself... *cough*

I do sometimes wish I could get into their networks to solve my problems, everyones problems for that matter, but I doubt he was talking about that

is he talking about this stuff?

I would assume that that is the idea. I think that it would be the common basic problems that users would be able to sort out themselves, which makes sense.

Had an interesting lunch time discussion with an insider at Openserve yesterday.

(1) Plenty of issues of converting from copper distribution to fibre ....
(2) How to do in such a way that when the copper is recovered, the fibre is not damaged ....
(3) Will re-use overhead infrastructure in "leafy suburbs" if in good condition.
(4) Have stopped using the copper cables to support the fibre cables -- this one really shocked me, why would anyone think that was a good idea in the first place??
(5) Provide fibre right up to a termination box in your home (Openserve CPE).
(6) Owner is responsible for trenching IF he insists on underground from the pole to the CPE.
(7) Owner is then free to pick his ISP, who then installs a second CPE box which plugs into the Openserve box for services. That box then provides the data connection and a "fixed line look alike" service, if required.
(8) Owner responsible for providing power to the CPE ---- service reliability in the last mile now dependent on what the owner does regarding ensuring continuous power supply for the CPE ....

Nolloth WTF is that ?

OK googled it ...

Port Nolloth is a town and small domestic seaport in the Namaqualand region on the northwestern coast of South Africa, 144 kilometres northwest of Springbok.

Shocked and dismayed at this lack of knowledge about SA's geography!
