Somali-owned shops attacked in E Cape

Johannesburg - Fourteen shops owned by Somali nationals in the Motherwell area were looted and some burnt on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said a group of people began the looting at 03:00 in Kamvelihle, Ramaphosa and Wells Estate.

"Doors and windows were broken and on some of the shops, burglar bars were removed."

Two shops were burnt to the ground in Kamvelihle and one in Ramaphosa. When the violence began, other Somali shop owners, who had not yet been affected by the looting, removed their stock and moved to a safe place.

No arrests were made and police were on "high alert".

Everything was currently "back to normal".

I'm not a big fan of Somali's , we have some living near my parents who sell drugs and stuff.
Even in the UK when I worked there, they are real scummy people who complain and do very little work.

How many countries are between SA and Somalia that they choose SA to come to?
 
I got a bunch of them as clients... they always pay. Theyre way smarter than the locals when it comes to dealing with technology.

If they are here legally, then no problem.

If not, then the legal route must be followed to deport them.

Don't think I'll mess with these guys - last year I saw one was carrying a gun tucked away.
They always sit on the side pavement outside the place and stare at us when we arrive at my parents place.
 
I was in Wells Estate yesterday. Cope were campaigning. Connection?
 
Its sad when people who don't want to work feel it necessary to take from others.
 
Just sour grapes from locals... who see them as "taking" what was supposed to be their's... I mean they've come all the way from Somalia, risked the capital to open a shop, and are now probably doing well... now the locals see they could have easily done the same... but were too damn lazy to start... now they're taking it out on them.... not fair... and most of them are legal since they're refugees...

I am no Xenophobe but do see overall issues that can lead to this type of actions. We are one of the very few countries in the world that allow under skilled or low skilled people to stream in by the bucket load and at the same time do nothing to prevent skilled to leave. The problem with the lets call them "imports" is that they most of the time do not abide by the same rules as the locals, from working for cheaper to not paying taxes. Most of the time the lack of income cause allot of them to move to more frowned upon means of income be that the selling of drugs to prostitution to other crimes like theft.

It is proven world over that if you keep on getting people willing to work for less that it negatively affect the local workforce as well as quality of life. Examples can be seen as the Mexicans in the US to the Asians in Australia, Also the middle eastern people in Europe can have this effect. In SA with an open door policy the effect is just much worse.

I dont say the shop owners where drug pushers its just that with the above mentioned state of mind, the line of enemy vs friend becomes blurred.
