How will I be able to check my available bundle balance?

Q: Is there a website (like MTN Active or Vodacom4me)?

Q: Is there a USSD menu?
A: Yes: *101#

Q: Are the stats "live" or is there some lag between the actual and the displayed values?

Q: Is there any way to request a "hard cap", in other words, when the monthly allocation is depleted it just disconnects rather than being charged out-of-bundle rates?

Q: Is the Cell C Data Promotion a contract? If so, what is the term of the contract?

From Cell C's FAQ:
Q: Can I update the firmware on my Vodafone device with the Cell C software/drivers?
The modem's firmware and the dashboard software should not be confused.

Firmware updates can improve the modem's speed, add new features (like USSD or cell ID reporting), improve stability. Firmware updates are specific to a particular modem model and are normally independent of the network operator.

The modems often have installers for the dashboard and drivers which appears to your computer as a "virtual CD-ROM". The dashboards are often branded by the network operator and some network operators' dashboards intentionally do not work with other SIMs.

Q: What if I buy the modem and I don't like the service?
A: We're confident that we are offering a superior service, but should you not be satisfied for whatever reason, we have put a seven-day return and refund policy in place.
Update: According to one of the stores, there is a handling fee of R350 if you return the product. :(

Q: Where can we get a list of the 21Mbps enabled towers and their cell IDs?

Q: Why is there the following (vague) fair usage policy on a capped product?
Q: Your data usage is subject to a fair use limit, which shall be determined in Cell C’s sole discretion and communicated to you upon your request and/or from time to time as determined by Cell C.

If I take up the offer, in the middle or towards the end of the month, will I receive the full data allocation or will it be pro-rata?

Be a little fair. All ISP's have to put that in thier usage policies. just check. ICASA is not regulating what fair use is which is the problem.

@rph72 god question. Could anyone who is on cell c just phone customer care and ask them for us. Im on mtn sadly. Once they have it in umlazi im jumping ship.

Link please?

I can understand a fair usage policy for an uncapped service, but if I am buying 5GB of traffic at a speed of up to 21Mbps, all of my usage is fair.
In fact, if I was denied some of my cap, that would be unfair.

Hey Graham

I just bought the R1499 package.

It seems a lot faster than the Vodacom on my E620 but it could be because of the lack of users. I have not done speed tests.

The cell C Dashboard has a USSD command *101# to get your data balance.
"Send:*101#
Receive:Balance = R 0.00 Expiry date : 16/08/2020. Bonus SMS's = 0. Your data is 2032.38 MBytes. "

I was told the 1st month was free and my account runs from 1 Nov. We will see.

No contract. pay your money and rica the sim!!!!

Is there a way to check your balance without the CellC software(Doesn't seem to work wit Huawei modems)?

Maybe after the 1st month the Expiry date will be the correct 1.
Is it me or it is 2020? Looks weird! :erm:

Hey Sean, good to "see" you again!

Could be the number of users, but the E1820 is a much faster modem than your old E620!

I was wondering about that, from the Data Promotion Bundles FAQ:
What is the Out-of-Bundle rate on the data promotion?
R 0.39/MB – this is if you use all 2GB/5GB before month-end.
If it's not a contract, how can you go out of bundle? I'm hoping this just means that should you want to, you can load additional airtime on the SIM and use it at the out-of-bundle rate.

From: http://www.cellc.co.za/about/news
Cell C is the only operator in South Africa to utilise both the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands. While HSPA+ 900 delivers area coverage, HSPA+ 2100 delivers capacity where needed.
Does this mean that in some areas it is possible to use Cell C's 21Mbps HSPA+ with an older modem that doesn't have UMTS900?
Where can we find out which Cell C towers use the 2100MHz band?

Yes it should be faster than the older modem but it seemed to be working at slower speeds but more constant and not bursting and breathing.

It is just the impression I got...

sorry the Model is Huawei E1752, I read the wrong number.

Pray tell me how this rate of R390/Gb is determined when compared to R42/Gb for 24Gb over 12 months? It means going back to Vodacom/MTN after the CellC 2Gb for the month is finished!

WEIRD pricing indeed.
