Hi Folks

I have just returned from the ICASA hearings and it has so far been an interesting day. Telkom’s presentation brought nothing new…same excuses we heard from 2 years ago. All the other speakers spoke with one voice. I anticipate that this will be the case for the rest of the day and the rest of the hearings for that matter. Congratulations to Richardo and Charl for their informative presentations.

Regards,

RPM

Hi Kaspaas

I will try to get as many presentations as possible on the web (including Telkom's)...

Regards,

RPM

Good work guys I hope we have detailed logs/audio/video of the presentations this evening :D

Hi RPM

An (good?) idea occurred to me wrt the hearings.

Wouldn't it be great if we could have a well moderated topic created for MyADSL members to voice their thoughts and concerns with the provision of ADSL in South Africa, and then have this topic used by one of the presenters on the last day of the hearings?

Kind of a Vox Pop of the general forum members that couldn't make the hearings...

I'm thinking almost like surfing to it during a presentation and displaying it for all to see?

?

Be sure to post any interesting, informative comments by the presenters.

Yes I am also very keen to find out what the outcome is as this hearings have been so long in the making...

Hopefully the ICASA representatives will be objective and not biased towards the big bad bullies.

I have read the news from ITWeb regarding the Hearing today, it seems telkom still talking bunch of nonsense facing all the questions. All the stat Telkom gathered is based on their own system. Which I think satisfaction level should be compare to the international expectation, because the whole SA except us they called "Abusers" is been limited to the small box Telkom created, which they didn't know what the international ADSL can offer.

P.S. Sorry about the gramma and spelling :P
and keep up the good work for the next 3 days :D

It's RICCARDO:)

And here's a transcript of my presentation, without the extra bits I added in after hearing Telkom's pathetic opening comments. Please note that my presentation is over, so I don't want people dissecting or commenting negatively on it. Sorry for you. It's too late for me to change things. Any errors I made were my own fault, and I don't think that minor technical mistakes will affect the outcome of the inquisition. The two councillors on the panel are EXTREMELY sharp, and it was the funniest thing to see Telkom squirm when they pounded them with inciteful questions. Anyway:)

Good luck for everyone else and don't forget that the first impression is everything - (all those using pp check spelling - I notices in that one that there was a WDS - isn't it WBS or am completly stupid???

Hi guys

I have just returned from the second session, and Antowan’s presentation was Brilliant! I will be highly surprised if any of the other companies, including MWeb, MTN or IS can come close to what he has delivered. He touched on all the important points, and highlighted exactly how we are being ripped off and what can be done about it. He really did us proud…thanks a bunch Antowan!

The other presentation came from the Internet Society’s Calvin Brown. While his presentation did not have as much impact as Antowan’s, he focused on a few critical issues, while his views (and that of the IS) were basically the same as ours.

Well done guys...looking forward to the next few presentations.

Regards,

RPM

A most interesting and gripping read from start to finish.
Well Done Riccardo.

These procedings are going pretty much as I'd expect with Telkom once again illustrating their incopetence and lack of insight/foresight or any sight for that matter. I'd expect them to get ripped a new one in the next few days.

The only problem that I foresee is Telkom once again just outrightly ignoring any recommendations/judgements made by ICASA... and if ICASA finally grow a pair and just _make_ telkom remove the cap and reduce the rental, what's to stop Telkom from simply degrading the service further to uselessness and blaming it on the changes that it was forced to make? Isn't that typical Telkom mentality/strategy?

Could someone please up ricardo's doc to local FTP/paste it here/mail it to me as i'm on a capped account atm :/

ftp.uunet.co.za/pub/incoming provides free FTP service
