Thank you JazeSA for providing a first hand experience of the VMIII supporting AC + DC power blending (I was looking for this answer for a while now). I should be able to confirm the same if my unit arrives this weekend.
I also want to say, shame on the 4 pages of squabble that led up to the answer. It makes life for the new kid much harder, not easier.
It also looks like the VMIII unit doesn't take solar seriously if the load is under 300Watt. As soon as I push the load up past 300Watt (the blue blocks) the solar input jumps to it's max delivery. So far all indications show that this unit is actively subsidizing my loads during sunshine periods.
