I recently upgraded my firmware to 4.2.1.8 and since then all hell has broken loose. I can connect to the tower and in windows it sez i am connected but i am not. i cant view webpages nor ping anyone and the modem Receiver Light never blinks but the modem does transmit. Proasm, When i run MySignal i get an error "10038:Socket Error On Socket" . I have also tried firmware 4.2.1.1 and 4.2.1.2 but it has no different effect. i have reinstalled so many times that i have lost count. I phoned the help desk and the "help" guy didnt know what firmware was and asked me if my modem was plugged in... It has been a week since i have had no internet and i have had to post this from my school :/ . Upgrading Screwed my around really bad so if anyone can help me i would appreciate this.

Hello Clicked...

I've had similar problems ... have you opened the back cover of the modem and done a "hard reset" shorting the 2 gold contacts ?... This and a reflash or 2 did the trick for me ... don't want to risk switching my modem off though ;-) ... might not come back to life...

If the problem continues I'd suggest taking it to NoWire (Menlyn) and get them to test/replace it... You'll need a copy of the contract or the ID number of the person that signed up for the contract.

If you are based in or around Randpark Ridge - I might be able to assist as well.

Yes... they all have. It's a reset button, located under the rear cover
near the sim card slot.

Hmmm, last i checked there was only the gold contacts. I'll need to check later, but i wouldn't beleive everything (anything???) SlowComm says. Remember these are the peeps responsible for tower maintenance

Every techie at the helpdesk tells you a different thing about how to reset the modem. I've had one tell me to stick something in the little "hole" next to the word "reset" Next time around I had to "swipe" my carkeys across the two little (goldish) metal plates. Last time I had to swipe something across the (goldish) metal plate closest to the printed "reset", not both. So if they want you to reset the modem, ask them how ;)

Jhbgirl... that's it! It actually has the word "reset" in small print next to it.
I'd be interested to know if some modems don't have it though!!!
(They bought the el-cheapo model - [:D] )

Mine has the word reset next to 2 little SILVER strips, and I have to join them to reset?
But it works so I dont care :)

Actaully dbn ... In my case ... no matter WHAT you press into the little slot for "reset" nada nothing fsck all... Showt the 2 large gold areas and she does a proper reboot..

This reboot method was given to me by someone at Nowire and repeatedly by the Call centre staff - not that I trust that but hey.

Thanks for that. I've never used the re-set so far... so could be that this is the norm!
