Some PC Building advice

If your customer is willing to spend that kind of money, could I suggest waiting for Nehalem etc?

Then you could have:
Nehalem whatever CPU
Gigabyte X58 mobo
4GB DDR3
GTX280
I'd get one of the Antec Signature PSUs, though they may be a bit expensive, but I read a review a while back that found them to be flawless.
Antec P180 - I never suggest anything else.

But with these new processors, it may push th budget... Also depends if your customer is willing to wait.

he needs it this wknd

Everything looks reasonable and will definitely last him a while (I would go for the P5Q btw).

With the case, I would make up a list of decent cases and let him choose which one he wants, just to be sure he gets something that he doesn't think is horrid looking :P

I'm not sure than you'll need 1KW in two years' time to be honest.

But, as you say, if you have the money for it why not? :p

You're right- meed 1KW now lol!
If he/you changeded the mobo, could've gone DDR3, not that there's much performance gain.

And go for the a factory overclocked GTX280.
Also why not a Q9770?

Budget his 20k ... Q9770 is a bit extreme for that :P ... which GTX280's are overclocked besides Asus.

I suppose you do have a point Techie ..... everyone is going the 'use-less-energy' route these days, so ja a 700W is probably enough.

eita - complete mobo noob me :o

While I agree that 700W should be fine, it won't make any difference to the amount of power used from the grid. The PSU only takes as much as the PC needs, whether the PSU says 250W or 1.5kW... If you want to save electricity, get a good energy efficient PSU. If he can afford it, the Antec Signature 650 is the best thing available. Or the 850 version...

I still think he should get a cheaper pc now (exept case, PSU and GFX card) and then get nehalem (i7) when it comes out

If only for gaming an dno overclocking i would say he should go with the E8500 or E8600, to get the fastest non oc'ed speed he can. Games not ready for quads yet and prob will not be for awhile.

I will second the P5Q Deluxe for a mobo and would get a 4870X2 (can be crossfired later if needed)

Get the Quad, as it feels smoother under heavy use. I've used dual core at work and quad core at home, and quad wins, especially under heavy multi tasking. Also, games are moving rapidly towards multi core, more and more every few months. Far Cry 2 should work very well with that quad you quoted. I have the 9450 myself, and it's excellent.

Go for Intel chipset based motherboard, they are more stable than Nvidia's ones. There have been reports of data corruption with Nvidia's ones.

Use 4 gigs of slightly slower 800 ram, and overclock those. The price difference between 800 and above is rather heavy. Corsair ram would be my choice. Same goes for the power supply, Corsair have some good models.

Price difference between 800 and 1066 is not that big ... like 300 or so. I've had too many problems with Corsair memory to recommend them :p
