Some SLI questions...

SLI has hardly ever been worth it unless you can afford two top of the range cards. The 6600GT was apparently the height of SLI..

Fair enough. But I think your problem will come when you want to play the newer games (quakewars for instance) and cant do so because you bought a crappy 8600 card...
Well you could I suppose, but thats of course if you dont like playing with something that looks like your dogs breakfast, in slow motion :p

buy HD 2900XT :D
8600GTS will play Quake Wars well enough, but who cares... HD 2900XT ftw
