I've had the issue for the past couple of months (if not more than a year), where my flash drive that I've inserted into USB 2 or 3, would never show up in Windows Explorer (or accessible otherwise).
The USB flash drive does show up in Device Manager though. Disk Manager would simply hang when I try to open it.

I reinstalled chipset and USB drivers and it did not fix it.

After booting into Safe Mode, I discovered that it was working 100%.
I then started disabling apps and services and eventually found the culprit: Samsung Kies software !

Uninstalled that POS and then all of a sudden my flash drives are working 100%!!!

Will test this soon. Memory sticks sometimes have issues in my win 7 pc, can also see them in device manager and disk manager.
My latest issue is one of my 1tb usb3 hard drives actually causing my pc to freeze as I insert it into my pc.

Works fine on my laptop and tv . Will test if removing Kies works for me as well :P
