I must confess, I have *never* used P. I have no idea what it does. I use AV. And when that doesn't cut it, I fall back on M. Old habits die hard...

Except for a noticeable lack of barrel distortion I dont notice a discernible difference to the non IS version.sorry about the ugly pics, but this was the only time I had the 450d + 18-55IS for checking out (ugly day)
anyway, you should be able to gauge the sharpness of this combo
the first one is at 55mm f7.1
the second one is at 18mm f4
The Nikon d90 is more comparable with the Canon 450d.D90? You can't be serious. The 40D and D90 are very similar. If you have a 40D, why are you even thinking about that? In terms of image quality, those 3 cameras are all the same. You already have an 18-55 Canon lens.

The Canon 40d is more comparable with the Nikon d300.
The 40D is still unopened - so now I must decide if I want to sell it as new and move to Nikon, or get a lens.
Well - it looks like I sold my 450D![]()

A collegue had the D200 about to weeks ago, I was really impressed with the pictures.
40d has better ergonomics than d90
d90 has better ergonomics than 450d
the raw files from the 40d and d90 look the same, but I can get the ready-to-use jpegs, out the d90, a lot quicker

don't get a nikon
you already have a 40d
get some glass
I have small hands, does this mean the 40D is gonna be a problem?
I can't handle them cos the stores are out of stock, but they order upon the user ordering.

You've been holding off on buying a camera waiting for something you've never even held, let alone tested?I have small hands, does this mean the 40D is gonna be a problem?

BTW - they're not scarce around here - even my local Macro has stock.
I have someone that'll pay me just less than retail for the 40D, is it worth doing it and getting a 50D?

if you want the new screen
I've never used a 50d, so can't comment

So . . . shooting RAW "reveals cleaner and better defined details with a slight boost in resolution" than JPG?if you want the new screen

Dang I wish I could program that button.Aside from the screen that looks better, the 50D is identical. The body is the same, the button placement is the same. The only difference is that the print button now has another function.
EDIT: The above relates to the body shape & layout, not the internals.
