"Something sinister" may be causing driver’s licence renewal problems

  1. License should be for life (or renew only when older than 70 years) - this will reduce the load

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence"
You are wrong.

The intent from the introduction of this license renewal system was to make money for doing ****all.

The ****up at the renewal centres is not due to incompetence, it's a a byproduct of design.

I renewed my license on 25/09. Went to the traffic dept after downloading and completing my forms. Day 1: COVID screen, checking forms, eye test, paying = 1.5 hours, day 2: Collection (after 4 weeks) = 20 mins. All done.
And to confirm, I did all of this in Goodwood, CT.

So the process with the most corruption gets allocated more slots? Who would have thought.

How badly is this whole system designed that they have to pre-allocate "slots" for new licenses vs renewals? Surely, it should just be a matter of receiving and checking the right forms, selecting new vs renewal in the system, capturing relevant data with the necessary controls and checks, and the rest of the process is identical? I don't get it.

TIL the ANC is also known by their other moniker, "Something sinister"

They don't want to work too hard.

It's like when my parents went to get their passports last year. They just needed to pick them up. Was 2:45pm.. the guard at the door was "no.. they are closed. They reached their quota for the day ". There were no people, queues or anything...

Yeah, they probably used up all their "slots" already. And these people are better paid than most private South African workers according to latest stats. Disgraceful.

If one must go with the system of renewals (though why?!) then the decision of which slots will be allocated to new applications and which to renewals could/should be made not by a human but by an algorithm, surely?

Number 2 sounds the most lucrative. No stone should be left unturned while trying to determine how these slots are being mysteriously allocated. R170 million should cover the first phase of commissioning the investigation.
Ja wat, if only I was "B" Enough for tender Enrichment.

He said they are now investigating why officials are deliberately allocating more slots for new driver’s licences.
It is obvious, maybe I can save tax payers that R170m by pointing out the obvious: a lot more money corruptly changes hands with new drivers licences compared to renewals, that means that corrupt licensing officials will use up as many slots as they can for new drivers licences and thereby maximise their illegal income stream.

Thinks about it, during hard lockdown, the corrupt licensing officials had close to zero illegal income from both new licences and overdue renewals, and since there is a grace period on renewals it follows that people will be less likely to pay for a corrupt renewal, that leaves new licences as the main illegal income stream for corrupt licensing officials.

So why is this dude holding press briefings about this instead of fixing it? It is his department is it not?

Or just do it on first come first served basis.

We got overstaffed government ... yet we can't even get license booking from these clowns.

Yeah 'cos if your systems doesn't work it has to be the Tokoloshe, or sinista fosses.

Just not the idiots that's running the show..

Oh no, this lot still believes in voodoo, long way to go before they learn the true meaning of responsibility.
It’s the tuurd force....?
