Hello

I've been using mtn prepaid package for a while now since telkom became to over priced. It's not to bad considering that you can only open one page at a time, atleast I can check my e-mail etc.

The point that I wan't to come to; If I buy 3G from Vodacom package with 512MB Capped can anyone please tell me what I need to know the + and - pointers and experience? Is it wort opening a contract? how's the actual speeds? what connector does one need for your pc?

etc...

thanks!

As far as I know they only bring out PCMCIA cards (which laptops use) so it'll set you back a few hundred for a converter for your PC.

Also, people report pretty decent speeds with their 3G package.

But, I'm sorry to say, nothing (not even ADSL) is worth opening up a contract for. 512mb may seem a lot to you, but I bet that 512mb would easily dissapear into nothingness.

If you compare the pricing of ADSL and 3G (Vodacom), and the fact that you have a PC, it will work you out cheaper to have ADSL than to have 3G. Plus, you'll get 5 times as much bandwidth.

Provided you won't be surfing at 1mbps, but who needs speed if you're connected 24/7?

With Telkom hopefully announcing price reductions on ADSL soon, it will get even cheaper for you.

ADSL 192 + 3 Gig Bandwidth won't set you back more than R500 a month.

Oh, and one BIG negative... is what if Vodacom's network goes down again and you need to use the internet urgently? Personally, I prefer MTN and, yes, ADSL.

ic I read the forums and I understand more than before.

Just a few questions I still don'lt really get...

When I walk into a vodaphone shop what do I need to know about 3g before I ask them? what I want to use? because I see they launched HSDPA cards this year in April and other stuff that I really don't still know about.

If I understand correctly the 3g data cards are much faster than adsl connection? (depends on conditions thou...)

Is their extra stuff that I have to buy for the 3g cards like antennas; etc.

thanks.
