Here's hoping someone can give an answer as I have not had a response from Sonic in 4/5 days. 20 to 40 percent reductions in line speed on a regular basis, latency and jitter (poor). Tonights results are via MYBB speedtest to Cape Town and Jo'burg. It is a regular evening service. I'm tired of running trace routes et al. I've even asked to be upgraded to a 10Mbps line (and pay for it) just to see how it goes. Ideas/options please? I've got a budget of R2k a month to run the household internet.

This is quite interesting, thanks for the detailed posts. I live in Duynefontein and the ADSL is truly terrible. Currently have a 2Mb connection, depending on the day the throughput can be down to 0.5Mb... I'm trying to decide between Sonic and Snowball as I just had enough from Telkom. I've investigated fibre and all other options, but it seems like we just can't get enough demand in the area for any ISP to take fibre further.

Overall impressions of Sonic seem to be positive, but I don't want to be stuck with another non-performing connection. Anyone have any experience with Snowball?

Still looking great here in Parklands - am thinking that either there's something horribly wrong with the highsite Jonty is connecting to, or the interference is fairly bad :/

I wish sonic would respond and resolve this, .Phone calls and stats sent yet every evening it falls apart. Is there a Sonic Rep on these boards! tests to Cape Town.

Jonty, what equipment did they install for you?
I took over the equipment the previous owner had installed a few months before we moved in (so unsure exactly), Upgraded the wireless router also. A local company, Inkalot, did the testing and survey after we moved in but paid the full price for a new equipment installation?

I'm finding it hard to believe I am the only one in this area suffering these problems. Perhaps if the installers would come out and check the equipment? it may resolve an issue. As I appear to be the only person complaining/posting issues from Melkbos, I have shared it on the local FB page to test it out. Maybe just the equipment? but an answer or resolution would be good....

I live in Rondeberg and have been having problem for the past year. I recently moved and ended up only 200mts away from my last location. I asked for the Sonic people to move my dish as i was not happy with Inkalot service who did the initial installation. The sonic people told me the installation was unstable and requested their office to find a solution. I received and email suggesting i put in a better dish at an additional cost of R 5K.

This weekend my poor service crashed completely.

My question is was the installation ever stable. was i sold a product by inkalot that was not suitable in the 1st place.

Hello, you will not get a response, I have the same issue and they keep telling me it is on my side, to many devices connected ie. 2 devices. Latency down the toilet and jitter through the roof and also send stats and made calls. All they say is you should only connect one device and you will get CLOSE to your paid service.

I am so fed up that I am serious looking to go back to telkom....and that should speak volumes of how "great" sonic wireless customer service is.

Upgraded to 8mbps at the end of November and liking the speed quite a bit better than 5mbps. At 8mbps I'm generally getting better thoughput compared to 10mbps ADSL that I had. Our initial setup issues on the new node has disappeared over time now. I just now have concerns with international bandwidth and throughput, Sonic Wireless seems very slow compared to local traffic, I've checked this on Speedtest.net to various points across the globe. Usually I get about half the rate 2-5mbps internationally vs 8mbps locally. Latency is still pretty good. Anybody else having the same issues?

Eish... I'm desperate to chuck Telkom (and dstv) so looking for a decent alternative, and Sonic was it... Now I'm not so sure...

Looked at Amoeba, but their business practices hav put me off...

Any other options?

so over the last few weeks i was in EXACTLY the same predicament (telephone cables got stolen about 2 months ago...no fixes as yet so I cancelled my 4mbps ADSL line with telkom). Amobia did come out to do LOS survey test, but it was a balls up (which afterwards i was quite happy for, because i started reading more and more scary stuff about them on the forums).

I was also considering Sonic Wireless, but looked for other alternatives as I didnt want to pay their installation cost. Found a company in Milnerton CPT called "KAB Technologies" ------ they are coming to install everything this coming thursday so will let u know how that goes

- 24 month option ------ installation free (the one i took)
- 12 month option ----- R1500
- month to month - R2800

4mbps and 10mbps line options look good. They have capped and uncapped with FUPs in place. I went for a 4mbps 100GB capped package for R650 per month so lets see how that goes

10mbps uncapped package is R1050 per month. FUP around 500GB's

Their FUP is at 280gb. It only gets applied if necessary, though.

Has anyone had success using Smart DNS with Sonic WiFi? I'm using unlocker and found it worked fine for about 3 weeks but now doesn't work at all. Either the DNS is being Hijacked or maybe I am routed through Telkom lines now which don't work with Unlocker. I'm trying to use Unlocker Smart VPN instead of Smart DNS now but unfortunately that fails to connect through Windows 10 more often than it succeeds. I can't find out how to install Unlocker VPN on my router either. I can install Express VPN on my router Ok but that doesn't work with BBC Iplayer anymore.

I ordered Sonic Fusion Fibre today, just too tired of slow 4mb adsl. Hopefully this is an improvement of the ADSL. How long did you guys have to wait for installation?

Awe massekin! Don't forget to leave feedback.

In my case they need me to get 10 more interested clients to setup a wireless network so will have to wait and see. Been to a couple of neighbors and got 7 interested thus far...feel like a bloody rep for them lol!

Awe I am waiting on the installation. They did the survey last week and all is well. Will only install next week though they fully booked.
