Please bear with me... this is my first attempt at anything to do with home automation/lighting (apart from my posts in the CBI Astute Power Monitor thread).

I have tried to educate myself a bit and have searched the forum, so if my query here has been addressed please point me in the right direction.

I have just moved into a house with a fair amount of downlights, 37 to be exact, all on 12V and with 50w halogen bulbs. Step 1 of course is to convert to 220V and replace with LED's.

I'd like to install Sonoff switches to control the lights in the various rooms/areas. Neutral cables do not run to the wall switches. Am I correct in saying that I need Sonoff Mini's to do this? Situated in the ceiling in order to get to the neutral wires.

Note, some of the switches are "spring loaded" with dimmer modules behind them. How do I approach these?

(Pic below shows 4 gang switch, top right switch is spring loaded for dimming and always returns to that position).

Replace dimmer modules with shelly dimmer2. Only works after the bulbs are led 220v I think. Maybe sonoff have their own dimmer? Anyways shelly dimmer works exactly as those dimmer modules with the spring loaded buttons. Thats what I did, works 100%.

So if I wanted for the 4 gang switch I'd need 3 x Shelly 1's and 1 x Shelly Dimmer, all installed in the roof?

Edit: Just saw pricing now... perhaps 1 x Shelly Dimmer and 3 x Sonoff Mini's.

So I'll have either 4 or 6 x 5w LED's, not enough to power the unit.

Do I still need these if using the Shelly Dimmer and dimmable LED's?

You can run NO NEUTRAL wall switches in live only switch areas, just means you need to wire in a cap on one of the circuits per wall socket. If you going through the effort of wanting to wire sonoff mini's , I'd rather do that. Also like the fact of a physical switch to cut power vs a downstream controlled one.

Shelly Dimmer 2 is going to be available locally as well very soon - no need to get from overseas either.

Finding dimmable lights was harder than I thought, but when I got them installed there was zero issue with flickering or anything.

I still have my 'standard' light switch - so no manual dimmer yet. I use the dimming mainly for scenes .

I'm planning on buying a push button momentary and doing it that way though .
