Sony Ericsson K800

Hi MTNDD,

I received a reply from a Ms. Bernadette Fourie stating that I have to contact my account manager when I asked why the handset's release is being delayed.

Thanks for still keeping us in the loop and putting in all the hard work. It is after 11pm and I see you are posting replies to queries like crazy now.

I just received a phonecall from somebody high up with MTN that at last shed some light on the delay of this handset:

Apparently Sony Ericsson and MTN had a big disagreement some time ago and since then the supply of all Sony Ericsson handsets have become very erratic. The caller indicated that it may very well happen that this handset will never be available to MTN Subscribers and that they are telling people to move over to Vodacom if they desperately need one.

Eish, what a mess...

Good day,

Khyron

I don't suppose you can advise who that person was, strange that I haven't heard anything regarding the above

I MTNDD,

I spoke to one of the persons at MTN's offices in Midrand who places the orders with the cellphone manufacturers. The person also indicated that the problem is more widespread than just within SA, apparently it affects all the African countries where MTN does business.

This morning I also noticed that both Dion and Game have this handset available on Vodacom contracts in their latest brochures, which mean that it is about to become mainstream.

That is total nonsence. We are stocking all approved handsets

Now I am even more confused as ever. Who should I believe?

First I was told that the phone is available by MTN themselves, then there was a problem with the 3G SIM Card that could not be rectified, and then SE and MTN had a fall-out.

MTNDD, which version did you get from Midrand regarding this phone?

Good day,

I'll get the official word from Midrand ASAP

The K800i has been approved yesterday, and we are expecting a small qty to ship at the end of Sept.

Any news on this handset?
I was told that they might be available at the end of this month.

The stores are having a difficult time getting these from head office. I have been told this from several different sources. I ended up finding one available at Autopage on an MTN contract at the Centurion Centre, but I am with MTNSP so bad luck there.

Wonder what the delay is in getting these?

I was FINALLY able to get one from MTN at the Fourways Mall. R749 on Call 100 but every other package it comes for free. They have more in stock in case you want one.

That's awesome news
