Sony Ericsson P990i

Well, I'm quite happy wif my P990i, with 4gb mem :D It's a year now and ot works well. Also thinking bout a second contract, from MTN :)

my p990 still my backup.... been on iphone for a year, and now with the latest firmwares VERY HAPPY. damn its fast

Does any1 have a link for the P990 USB drivers for Vista 64 bit? Can't seem to find them anywhere ....

hey guys also a fellow SE Pxxx user iv had all models... must admit the current P1i is rather slow tho and the bottom quick links menu is finiky i prefer the p990i joypad to it along with the previous jogdials...the lack of media button is also rather disappointing....think they were putting too much time into the xpersa...this year round... are there any current firmware updates? my p1i is rather slow when switching between menus...

Use your PC Suite to update your phone to the latest firmware.

I'm still using my P990i since December 2006 and my next phone(s) will be :

SonyEriccson W980 for leisure
iPhone 3G/HSDPA for work

So even after all the crappy bugs on the 990 you want to get another SE, surely they will hype up a phone like this as well ...........

iPhone does not have serious credentials, it's a poser !

Muahaha!

I had a happy time with P990i. But it was always a case of 'oh well I know it's not perfect but I'll manage till the next firmware update'. By the time those stopped coming, I was quite disappointed, because my precious phone that I was 'improving' with time, love and care, almost like building a toy robot - never turned out to be the great phone it was meant to be.

Back in 2002 or something that might have been okay. But technology is just too cut-throat for this to happen and be deemed acceptable.

I won't give SE a chance until it's not a 'commitment' choice (i.e. I take this phone and I'm stuck with it until...)

Still got my beady lil eyes set on the E90, I hope it's not a bad choice!

After having my P990i since November 2006, I finally decided to take off the front flip! Now the phone actually doesn't feel so bulky.

This was inspired by my new 3G iPhone. :)

Also took my flap off a while back. It really give the phone a new lease on life and looks and feels alot sleeker

Absolutely right!

Feels like I got a new phone....and it's a bit thinner....can actually slip it into my pocket now. :)

I've also been having that. I thought it was the phone, so I swapped. I think it's the networks. Anyways.

Sometimes I get this icon which looks like a phone with a line through it. When I click it, it says "GPRS - CALLS Not allowed' with a setting button. If I go into flight mode, then back into phone mode - it goes away.

I know this goes way back, but did anyone solve this problem "GPRS - CALLS Not allowed"

I started using my P990i again and upgraded firmware, now as soon as I load WAP settings the phone bombs out when 3G is enabled ????

So who is still using their P990i 2-3 years On ?!

Hi all,

I see this thread has not seen any activity in 7 months so I am kind of assuming people have moved on to newer phones.

I decided late last year though to not upgrade but to rather keep my P990i and see how long it can last. It does pretty much everything I want so is there really any benefit from upgrading ? I reckon I am saving R300 a month by not upgrading so R7,200 in my pocket over 2 years should be quite welcome !

What did the rest of you do with your P990i's ?!

Regards,

Jeremiah.

The SE P1i is a dream and is a noticable improvement over the P990i. Unfortunately mine was stolen from me and I'm back to an aging P990i...

Thought I would check in on this thread after 3 years.. A P1i, iPhone 3G and now iPhone4 later, I still miss my P990i days!

Haha wow cool on getting an email about this thread! Good times! Brief recap, P990i was stolen, had a W950i, upgraded (and ported to MTN) to a Nokia E90, loved that phone like crazy but as my luck would have it, it got stolen. Eventually my W950i's screen packed up and I was stuck with an old Nokia 6680 till eventually buying a P1i and reliving my fond (and troublesome) UIQ3 memories. The back button started giving problems as well as a finnicky jog dial but it did what it had to (slowly!). Finally got to upgrade and I stumbled into the Blackberry trap now sporting (and finally insuring lol) a Blackberry 9800 Torch - LOVE LOVE LOVE my phone! This is what a smart phone is meant to be, fast, a true multitasker, with endless possibilities.

My friend bricked the P1i trying to re-install the firmware so it's gathering dust next to the just-as-useless W950i. Android devices look like they could be pretty awesome as do the latest iphones, but I love having a physical keyboard and as sad as it is to move on from these good old memories that came from this thread especially, I am officially a Blackberry fanboi :D

:) Same here, love the memories, the griping about limited RAM etc, but now loving my iPhone4. My Blackberry friends very happy with theirs, so it must be good phones. Same with Androids, but i will give it time to mature and get hopefully less fragmented before I might consider it one day.
