Hi there

I am an SE fan,had one of the first p800 in the country. It was a great phone. I miss it. I am looking to get the P990 at the moment. I am currently with Cell C but am quite happy to port. What deals have guys gotten on the p990 from your SPs. I am on a Business 400 with Cell C and that is approx where I want to stay in terms of monthly spend. They want me to pay in aprox 700 MTN SP want 999 and I dont know what Vodacom Sp wants. Any good deals out there from Nashua(left a message via their web page and they still have not got back to me one week later) or any other such SP??

One question, why worry about battery life if the phone is going to be docked on a desk for part or some of the day-- does the phone not come standard with the dock like the P800 did?
 
Yeah phone does come with a docking station like the old one's.

I know that Vodacom wanted R1,600 on any package besides the Talk 500 and Talk 1000, where it is free. MTN Direct R999.

And ofcourse the other problem with Vodacom, is the whole Vodafone branding thing... MTN is un-branded...
 
Can the vodafone branding be removed easily here in SA? I like their 3G infrastructure but have heard to many negatives about the branding.
 
A couple of people have had there branding removed... However, at that stage, Vodafone had allot of problems with their software. I believe that they have a more stable version out now... And so might not remove the Vodafone branding.

I have only heard negative comments on the Vodafone branded one's.

Also I believe that you cannot update the firmware via SEUS.

Also Vodacom P990i you will wait, as the status is * Software Testing *

I got mine on Friday. Had to pay in 999 with MTN. Had a chat to the owner of our local Voda Shop he said you can choose branded or unbranded. Don't know if this is true. Anyway hope this helps!

I got my P990i free from MTN via Altech Autopage on the Protalk 120 contract (it was a renewal of my contract). They also threw in a Sony Ericsson bluetooth headset for an additional R96. This was 2 weeks ago. New customers should get even better deals.

Well you are lucky... We all seemed to have paid around the R999 mark :(

I wonder if the Vodacom branding thing is true... I changed over because of that .

Sony Ericsson SA told my they are having problems with all P990s that are branded.
 
Yeah, that is what I have heard too. I am quite happy with my non branded one... It gives me no problems.

It was just interesting that Bruce000 heard that you could get it non branded or branded on Vodacom... Wonder if that is true what the guy told him...

I'm waiting for NM, I alo requested a phone without VL branding. Didn't seem to be a problem. I'm hopefully getting my phone today or tomorrow.... Will let u know on the branding.

I ordered my crystal case last night from Brando and they don't charge delivery costs in December for it - so it's $11 and free airmail. :)

Some peace of information for some of you guys that don't know. I just read on another chat site about the P990, that if your phone freezes it is not necessary to take the battery out(like I've been doing) He said you just need to hold the on/off button in for 15 seconds and it will switch off. I will be trying it next time. I'll let you know. If it happens to anyone before it happens to me try it and let us know. Maybe someone has done it already.
