Sony Ericsson P990i

@ Gecko

Let's hope this new firmware version will really fix all the hicups...

Anyone heard any news on the release?

No, not yet. I've been following the "Latest P990 Firmware Version" thread on Esato the whole week, and until this afternoon no update yet. I've checked via SEUS at 5pm myself, but nothing yet. Damn. What a waste of energy to get so excited in advance.

@ kingrob

What has made a difference in battery life for me... Disable 3G (I do not get a signal), turned screen brightness to 60%, and disabled W/Lan...

Just disable what you do not use...

I agree. My battery life doubled at least.

I know that on Monday next week... A new version of the actual updater software will be released. Maybe they will add it all then... Let's hope anyway.

WLAN was the first thing I disabled & checked that bluetooth is not on by default - that used to kill my P910. I'm getting a 3G signal, but will turn it off when I switch the phone on again. Mind you, I'm very excited to try video calls, using the phone as a 3G modem, etc...

Did you guys know that SonyEricsson has a longer lasting battery... B34 I think, which you can purchase.

Would be interesting to see the difference in B life.

That's fantastic news! I'll buy it as soon as it's available in SA.

Always good to have an extra battery....

Sorry, getting distracted here by the cricket on TV.. :D

@MJB
How did you hear about the newer version of the Update Service software being released next week Monday?

@kingrob

Remember to "initialise" you video calling on your 3G SIM card.

Here is a copy of the piece I found on the battery...

"In the debate about battery life I would say that the P990 is good for about two days of moderate usage and heavy usage about a day and a half. It is also with interest that all current SE P990 handsets come with the BST-33 battery which is a 950mAH unit and is smaller in capacity then the BST-34 battery which is a 1120mAH unit. (All the review samples were supposedly shipped with the BST-34). SE have the BST-34 battery as a “coming soon” item and I for one will be purchasing one when they are available to give me a bit more up time. You can find the BST-34 battery on Amazon.de but they won’t ship to the UK so I guess a short wait is required. "

@ Gecko

Will get back to you shortly with link...

Thanks MJB. So EMMA III = SEUS FW updating software?

Just actually having a closer look at this... It seems as if this is more on the programing side of the phone.

Ok, just found this...

"EMMA III Is what Sony Ericsson Service Centers use to update the phones."

Interesting...

hmmm... *a flicker of hope in Gecko's eyes..*

seems like everybody else is actually having a weekend.. Here I am, sitting in front of my notebook, watching cricket with one eye and following this forum with the other eye.

Yeah I know... I am busy doing some work here on my laptop...

But it's time to go and have some fun now... :D

My screen does not stay on while charging...even if I have the phone on when I connect the charger.
I think the settings should be handheld - auto, power save enabled after 1 (or x) minutes, screen saver - none
Mine fades out to dark after a minute while charging. Much better.

Same here.

Btw..still trying to sort out the 3G streaming issue. No luck so far. Works once, and then the links pull up an error afterwards.
Streaming video opens in the media player.
Under the settings, there are manual configuration proxy settings which are currently on RTSP proxy address 0,0,0,0 and HTTP Proxy with the same address.
Does anyone know what the correct addresses should be to get the streaming working, or should the setting be changed to use the internet settings (tried..no luck)
Hopefully not too advanced to ask here :)

Sorry, haven't tried streaming yet. Good question though. Maybe MTNDD can help with that.

THREE pages while I'm gone - you guys have been really busy :)

@kingrob I'm glad you finally took your phone out the box - does that mean your SP arrived ?

@Gecko - Sman is a work in progress it seems - the coders are having some major problems with the new symbian signed restrictions

PS @kingrob - glad you approve of the phone ;)
