Sony Ericsson P990i

does ANYBODY have any idea when i might see my firmware upgrade for voda 990s?

That decision rests with Vodafone.

Remember, they need to rewrite the Vodafone software for the updated firmware & test it, then schedule a world-wide release date & liase with SonyEricsson....or distribute it directly to their partners.

It looks absolutely horrible! That's why I just had to order one... :p

I was just checking!! :D The image one of the case shows a case for the flap as well so I was not sure whether the case was designed for flap on or off or both. Anyone care to post some pics of the phone sans flap with the case?

That's grey - but the price has definitely dropped. One with a normal local warranty is about R6500

The P990i from the SE shop at Vodaworld is R5899. Cheaper than the cash price from the cellular operators.

WireFree

This is actually normal. Cellphones tend to start out at a high price, then drastically drop a few months after its initial release. The cellphone manufacturers do this to quicker recoup production costs, and because the first people to buy a phone will probably buy it at any price. Then they drop the price so the phone becomes more mainstream.

My P990i's 'uptime' is now three days & going for four!!

Woo-hoo!!! :)

I found one of the biggest culprits in the memory leak to be the webbrowser. I can never get SwissM to reclaim all the memory after I used the browser..

Other question.

In my connections manager i found the following entry :

SEMC GPRS - 23.2 KB sent ; 18.8 KB received; 40 days 23:11:03 total connection time. - WTF .

I never have my phone on for more than 3 days at a time. How is 40 day connection possible ?

anybody know what that is and where it comes from ? I didn't put that there.

The web browser absolutely kills the P990i - I have stopped using it altogether. SE really need to sort this out, expect an updated web browser in the new firmware...

I've deleted SE's GPRS settings* (SEMC GPRS) from my phone and downloaded MTN's GPRS settings - works very well.

*The GPRS settings comes default with the phone.

If the Web Browser kills the memory... does anyone out there use Opera Mini instead on this phone?

I use email on my P990i frequently, got all my mailboxes set up on my phone, but don't really understand why people want to surf the web on such a small screen. Played around with the browser once, but quickly realised that it's not for me. Same with my P800, P900 & P910.

I have a wireless network at home, connected to a 4mbs dsl line. If i want to quickly look something up(weather for tomorrow or some other quick info) but don't feel like fetching the laptop, booting it etc then the phone browser is great. Your are on in seconds and have the data. Its not a solution for 5 hours of net usage and browsing but sometimes you don't want to be on for 5 hours:)

Sometimes I want some info and I am not close to my PC.

it's there for incase. also I use my phone a lot to check and handle banking.

Let me guess, you're not with Standard Bank? Then you can use MTN Banking on the MTN menu - much quicker.
