Try downloading the GPRS/3G settings from www.sonyericsson.com - when I got my phone I also had the same problems - and the settings sent from their website worked.

Thanks Psylent. Anyone had problems getting their POP mail working on Vodacom P990i? I know settings are right, because if I connect my phone through my WLAN, I can send and receive, but as soon as I connect through the phone's vlive internet connection (GPRS/3G), it fails every time....

Mine has not yet come. Should be coming some time today. Will let you know when it arrives and what its like. I don't think they will allow another person to order something from them, they are not really in the business of retailing accessories. I can ask though. PM me. I imagine because of the bulk they order they had the stock, or access to it.
 
i remember on p910 we could not get gmail to pop3 .... coz of some ssl security blah blah... do we know if gmail will pop now on p990?

yeah im using the gmail java app, but would like to be able to pop rather...

GMAIL POP works fine with internal P990i mail client (with added security). But I actually prefer the Gmail app itself.
 
Interesting, using 'vlive' APN, POP doesn't work, but using 'internet' APN... works fine. Looks like vlive may be blocking things... I wonder if using 'internet' means I am stuck with GPRS instead of 3G?

Don't you love the way these companies can dictate how you use GPRS/3G traffic, and then charge you for the use...

Kind of like them taking your phone you pay for, and branding the hardware and firmware in a way that stops you being able to upgrade it I suppose...

I'm with MTN, but I think you should have 3G connectivity with your 'internet' connection. P990's data connections by default are set to switch to fastest connections available. Test it and let us know.

I WILL NEVER BUY VODACOM AGAIN.

will port all my 4 voda contracts to mtn within the next year. and thats no idle threat.

Hi. Anyone using a Nokia CK7W carkit with their P990i's? Since I've upgraded / unbranded my phone all incoming calls gets cut off when I route them throught the carkit. I then need to phone back the caller. Any advice?

I really honestly don't know how the vlive settings are supposed to work, and with what they supposed to work but back then I just deleted the vlive crap completely and stuck only with the settings sent from SE. You can still use 3G on the 'internet' APN, but I'm assuming you can't use Vodafone Live's services like their mindblowingly expensive content crap - but who cares?

I had problems with my POP3 connecting too at one stage - something to do with the internet account it was trying to use - but I can't remember if I just deleted something or if magic fixed it by itself lol. Good luck!

ErnestF said he managed to unbrand his phone (a little bit earlier in this thread). Maybe you can find out from him how to do it.

I had the CK7W car kit. I tried everything, paring, repairing, latest phone firmware, latest carkit firmware and I couldn't get it to work.

Outgoing calls were fine, incoming calls got cut off between 5 and 8 seconds into the call. It was damn annoying. I eventually gave up and bought a HBH-PV700 Bluetooth headset. It works fantastically.

I spent my sunday afternoon removing the carkit, and gave it to a family member who uses a Nokia. The carkit installation place told me that the handsfree profile on the carkit was not compatible with the handsfree profile on the phone. :(

I got mine today! It's great :P The sound is pretty good, and it works flawlessly! :cool: I think it's a very cool idea! Let me know what you think?
