Hi Nixxon, a format of the internal storage will not free up more memory on the phone, but since no other processes will be running, it might give the impression that you 'scored' more RAM.

There are a few ways to free up RAM on the P990i : 1) use SwissManager 2) click on Task Manager and close all open apps manually. I think HandyDay, etc can do a similar function - when you close the flip, it closes all running apps.

ok now im confused!!!

calling on the king... ive just had my phone flashed at fourways vodacare. and its come back IDENTICAL. same vodacom startup screen. the ETERNAL blue booting up screen.

so i thinks

maybe im just getting confused as to what is branded and what is not, maybe i dont have vodafone software but i do have generica SE p990 software that is vodaCOM branded... i dont know anymore. just wasted 4 hours of my life and the people at that shop did not have a clue!!!

kvi, relax, dont panic - never fear when the king is near. :)

If you still see vodafone menus on your P990i - then I'm afraid it has not been flashed with the stock SonyEriccson firmware. However, if it's just the vodafone startup screen that you see, don't panic - it's just a custom made video file that replaces the SE one. You need to contact the Vodacare centre again and ask them to remove the vodafone firmware from your P990i and flash it with SonyEriccson's own firmware.

well thats what i did :)

ok here goes ANOTHER couple hours of my life. do you have any recommendation of a reliable person or place to take it too?

Oh dear, that sounds like an old firmware release....or vodafone mucking up your phone!

Check with that Vodacare centre again - and tell them that the phone is crashing constantly & you want the original Sony firmware for the phone.

Don't take no for an answer... :mad:
 
as much as i said it wasnt the proper one they were adamint (?) it was.... i left in a huff

now to find the right peops :)
 
Then try a different Vodacare centre, or go to Vodaworld. I think I've read the people that took their P990i's to Vodaworld, came out with a smile on the face. ;)

Can anybody help me get my speakerphone to work. I've tried following the procedures as per the manual - no luck! Thanks
 
well first of all you got to be playing something first otherwise there is nothing to hear... so play a tune or the radio or in the middle of a call... then try it and tell us if it workds
 
I was at the HP service agents a few days ago..i think they are called ICSS? They also service the Ipaqs.
Anyways..I saw in their consumables section that they have packs of screen protectors. These are quite large, and can be trimmed to fit anything. larger than the P900 screen, and look good quality. Anyways..I think they were priced at R134 per pack of 12. Might be a good option for those looking. I don't bother with a screen protector. After 2 years..I didn't even have a scratch on my P900 screen..so I must have a light hand :)
Btw...don't bother dl'ing a game called magic lines. made for the UIQ3...but it slows down so much after a few secs, that the whole phone stalls and hiccups, and eventually crashes. Must be hogging memory.

About the speakerphone (are you trying to redirect a call to the speakerphone?)
Mine did that...wouldn't activate the SP during a call. After a few hours of fussing with it and checking the service menus to test the speaker...I tried a simple reboot..and it came back :)
My advice..reboot. If not..do a web search for P990 service menu test mode and you can check your speaker is working there.
I suspect the reboot will do it though.

Anyway, I ended up using seus today and I have got my P990i back to it's original state... So the golf game is back, theme's etc. Took forever though :rolleyes:

when you did the seus upgrade did it take it back totally to SE state? do you think it would remove my vodacom branding?
 
Hi everyone !

Re the RAM issue - ATM due to memory leaks, even with Swiss Manager running, the phone does need to be restarted every 3-5 days (!), that's something I personally can live with right now.

Those who have acquired the phone in the last couple of days ( ChaCha, kvi :) ) should still absolutely put swiss manager on the phone ( it's free ).

The latest firmare on yi our phone should be R3B01 ( the 'organiser' version is the important one ), new F/W out overseas but not yet widely available.

Details on the shortcut to the service menu were posted a few pages back.

Version 2 of Swiss Manager is also under production apparently !
