Morning Hanno.

If you have any issues or questions with the phone, I would suggest you PM Kingrob. He knows this phone in and out. I don't think the King would mind ! ;)

I've had my P800 for just over 2 years now... still going no problem... one day I will get a newer model...lol... anywho has anyone found a app like ftP800 for FTP on your P990s?

iPhone vs current Smartphones

From MacRumours:
TreoCentral ( http://www.treocentral.com/content/Stories/1047-1.htm ) posted an excellent analysis of the Apple iPhone from the Palm and Smartphone market perspective. It addresses issues that have been long-standing in the smartphone world, including on-screen keyboards and battery life issues.

One interesting aspect is the lack of a removable battery in the iPhone. While this has worked for them in the iPod marketplace, the author suggests that Palm's experience has been one where users demand a removable battery. Certainly, the tradeoff provides a much slimmer form factor for the iPhone.

No other slim phone has every gotten good battery life. That is the tradeoff for slimness, and one of the primary reasons the Treo is so thick. While Apple's engineering is incredible, it seems hard to believe that they have solved this one industry-wide problem in a device that looks more power-hungry then any other.
Also pointed out, however, are the relatively vague battery life numbers provided, though, to be fair, the product remains 5 months from shipping.

The article also addresses on-screen keyboards, user interface, lack of 3G, non-open platform and more.

A Palm VP was quoted in terms of marketing against the iPhone in the coming months:

"How do you compete with vaporware? You sell the product that only costs half as much, and is available now. Palm's not going to try to market against product that they haven't seen yet."
Indeed, Palm CEO had suggested that Apple would have difficulties in entering the phone market after Palm had "learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone".

P990 probs - Thanks for all the Tips & Tricks

Hello all

This thread is a wealth of info for the p990. I've had mine for about a month now and constantly refer to the thread for tips and tricks (I've installed swiss manager and the vista theme - They ROCK - I'm also using a grey capdase rubber case which works well for me) and frustrations.

My latest one being that I can't view contacts from my SIM folder (doesn't stop reading from SIM).

Another problem is when I try to read messages I've received it responds by telling me that the message is incomplete and then a little pop-up appears telling me Access denied?

Also having problems installing pc suite on my office computer as there was a previous installation from my SE v800 and the registry keys from that installation were not totally removed.

I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on these probs.

BTW I'm using a p990i with vodacom startup screen and the phone came with R7A001 FW version. I haven't tried SEUS yet to update - dunno if any updates available judging from KVI still in a sulking mood!

@ Trix

I cannot help you as far as the messaging problems / contacts etc. are concerned... I am using the Generic World version. It seems as though your issues might be Vodafone Branded related.

As far as the registry entries from the previous installation, I would use something like RegCleaner and manually delete the registry entries.

I also believe that the new Firmware for Vodafone is not out yet :(

hey MTNDD,

Sorry to bug you but i just have a question,i know this is not the thread to ask this question so sorry in advance:o

Would you perhaps know when the SE W710/Z710 will be on MTN and at what price?

I'll check if I can find out for you and advise ASAP

Not as far as I know & it most probably won't work after the latest firmware update... :(

I think you're a bit harsh on the iPhone - remember, this is only Apple's first attempt at producing a mobile phone...

Definitely unfair that people expect Apple to release a 'killer' phone on their first attempt. Still, the iPhone (or whatever it will be called) will most probably end up being a 'killer' phone. :)

Hey, just p990 theme wise, the 'tiles' theme on se-uiq is also very cool. It is more light and airy then the vista one. Thats just my opinion:rolleyes:

Registry problems SE PC Suite solution

I solved the registry problem after first removing pc suite and running regvac then by:
1) opening REGEDIT
2) Right click on HKEY Classes Root and select permissions
3) click add under group and then click advanced in the next dialogue box
4) click Find now and then select your RDN name eg Administrator
5) Give full control to the new user/froup and reinstall pc suite

I just checked on SEUS for an update for my vodafone branded phone and typically none was available:mad:  !! Gonna download the current software and reapply it, just takes so long at around 10kB/s. hopefully that will sove other probs:rolleyes: !

Tiles theme is nice and 'light' as you say. I like the Oscar theme - simple, and has already a 'mac' feel about it :)

I agree. Will seriously consider the iPhone when it matures (will be by the time it reaches our shores!) At least it will be Must-Have-Gadget!
