Sony Ericsson X1 Update

Can anyone help me, I want to update my X1 with the Sony Ericsson software. It tells me to hold the volume button, and then the power button until the lines appear on the screen. Well guess what the phone goes on and I get no lines. Also I want to know if there's a setting to disable the pop up after you send a sms. It says message sent, then you have to say dismiss at the bottom.

Get into SMS mode, select a specific sms, menue->message option, untick Request message delivery notification.
