My Sony 42" plasma (model 42FWD PX2, I think) stopped working a while ago. I was quoted about R 8 000 for the repair; apparently the X and Y (?) boards both needed to be replaced. I used the money to buy a new unit (Samsung 42" plasma with three years warranty !) but wouldn't mind repairing the Sony myself if I could find the parts at a more reasonable price - this is a long-obsolete machine so if anyone wants to unload the parts at a discount or (in the Cape Town area) has the same model with some other damage and wants to make a few bob then let me know.

sheesh..just dropped my LG at the agents for repair 30 mins ago. Still waiting on the verdict . FFS whats with these plasmas and their X and Y boards cracking up. I get red/green flickering on my screen when it hots up. Techie said could just be voltages that needs to be adjusted or the x Y board is done :(

Perhaps google and see what "replacement" boards one could substitute? If any.

Any Ideas on how to install some 120mm cooling fan at the back to keep the plasma's cool. apparently most of the tvs problems occur because of over heating

Game/Makro sell some low profile ±40cm fans that are about 10cm deep...

van ! did you manage to get it fixed ? I got quoted half a new plasma for mine ? I'm little baffled. Get a new one , what to do with old one ?

You're going to make PP cream his pants by mentioning 'Sony' and 'plasma' in one sentence!

If you're written off the cost - put it on BoB from R1.00 with no reserve ;)

Can be used for spares or anything.

I put up two car radios, a camera, a multichoice decoder etc at R1.00 last night

Why is that?

You love Sony ...
You love plasma ...

Neither can do any wrong! And here, they're combined in a Sony plasma! I'm sure life could get any better than owning a limited edition Sony plasma!

You have it wrong (expected).

I love value for money. And for a budget of R10,000, nothing beats my PS42C450 / STR-500 setup.

You're welcome to prove me wrong by showing me better value for money for R10,000.

Like the look of the STR-500. I have the HT-AS625T (about 4 years old now) hooked up to my LA40C530 and I'm pretty happy.
