Sony release next generation Blu Ray player

what is up with putting movies on blu-ray ? We have DVD for that.
Blueray is only good for storing data on it. Stop making players and start making cheaper writers and media !

You can't get an HD movie onto a DVD.

I'd like to see you fit a 30gig HD movie on a dvd...

where's DVDShrink when you need it

EDIT: you miss his point. i think he is saying movies on BD are not that much of an improvement

4k? ermmm.. why not just buy a PS3?

Exactly my thought zeely - that is why I went and picked one up on the w-end :) So i can play those PSN games and put the odd blu-ray in when friends come over for some eye-candy :D

Then I don't think he has actually watched a BD movie on an HD TV :)

I'll fit 30GB of data on a bluray disc. A movie of 30GB is just wrong.

Using the H.264 you can get close also, most players do a good job of upscalling SD to HD.

Bluray is good only for storing 30GB of data on a disc. No one cares about putting movies on it.

Upscaling will NEVER be as good as native HD content.

and the number of Blu-Ray movies being sold is testament to the fact that alot of people (and its a growing number) do care about having natively HD content to playback on their HD screens.

I guess your opinion is negligible then:

They care about it because they want your money.
I care about data on BluRay because DVDs just don't hold that much. But then again, I am serious about backups - you might not be, go watch a movie or something.

Upscaling will NEVER be as good as native HD content.

Step away from the screen with that magnifying glass and sit on your 4ss so that we all can see the movie.

HD is overrated.

Do you have an HD screen at home with Native HD content to display on it?

Do you have an HD screen at home with Native HD content to display on it?

Yes, and it is connected to a device that makes sense for HD content. It is called a computer and you normally sit within a meter of the display. That way it makes sense to have a display with a high definition.

I also have a retarded device called a Television which I use to waste time with and I sit about 5 meters from it. At that distance I don't even try to count the 570-ish lines it produces.

Do you have a large 720p or 1080p LCD screen.. in the 42" range?...

If not, then please, until you do and have watched native HD content on the screen, reserve judgement... I used to feel the same way you do, until I actually got my new TV and HD content to go with it....

Upscaled content looks good, but doesn't match native HD content for clarity and detail.

Really? where are the hundreds of new movies being released onto blue ray? Why arent they flooding our stores...

blue ray as a movie delivery format is dead in the water. Its going to be overtaken by internet delivered movies. Kinda like what M$ is doing with the Xbox 360. And what sony are going to start doing with their online PS3...
