Sony to launch new PS3

Same machine. Just different HDD. If I were you, get the one that you can afford and if you need to upgrade, you can get a 500GB HDD for about R700 in todays prices. Will be cheaper as time goes.

*****in A my friend! I got my PS3 about a year ago - 40GB from Makro..R3999 with 2 controllers - remember that deal?! ... installed a brand new 250GB SATA 2.5' notebook drive and been using that since!

new ps3?! heh.

damn that's a good deal, bought mine for R5k with one control and 2 crappy games...

Hey Sony, here's my suggestions:
1. larger hdds overall (do pc manufacturers actually still make 80GB drives????)
2. more usb ports, even add some to the back. I don't want my external drives and remote charger to be plugged in the front, it makes my setup look messy
3. do something with the silly way in which you need to sort videos etc (like an option to create a folder under "videos" without having to add the files one by one to a playlist thing)

gotta agree with your #3 in the post... the file system on the PS3 is dom.

The 250 gig one is advertised on the cna website for R4499.95 ... dont think its worth paying the difference though imho

well... that is a valid opinion.....

but i would personally pay R500 more, to get the 250. my reasons:
1. buying a 250gb drive and replacing the one you get, will cost more than the R500 difference
2. i keep my warranty

You don't lose the warranty when you switch the HDD out. :D

Sony is not only ok with you changing the hard drive, they ENCOURAGE it.

The main down side to this approach is that you might be stuck with a 2.5" 120GB SATA hard drive :p

stick that 120GB SATA drive into a USB enclusure available under R200 almost anywhere... cart movies and other junk around :p

thats the deal i want :mad::mad:

stuff 250 gigs..... i mean they shouldve released a 40 or 80 slim and if we want to increase it we will.

yippeee...the slim is out but in the end of the day the price is still k@k

I thought it was another major overhaul of the PS3. They shouldn't use "new PS3" as a title because this can be misleading.
Yea, using the word new is VERY misleading... terrible title.

My old (40Gb) PS3 got a 200Gb HDD in it.. self upgrade is just too easy.
They should have just brought out cheaper 40/80Gb slims.. but then again, you know how it goes. MS is dumping a
bigger drive in the Elite and the parents go, ooh.. looky, more gigabytes in this one.. must be better deal for he price,
while they have no clue what it means.

I see everyone is selling these now - did a trip around the mall yesterday - Nov 3 must be early this year :D

Picked up a PS3 slim, 250GB, extra controller, two games for R4899 from incredible corruption, best bundle I've seen.

good deal but imo still 2 much for a console :(
i mean they introduce the slim but they 'bundle' them so they still milk us.

i really wanna get one this pay day but +- 5k is yoh, jislaaik, eish, eina, yerrie!

Buy the older Phat 80 GIG on special or second hand. No way are you going to get a completely FREEE ride bud.

lol i dont want a free rid iap..i just think 5k is still serious cash for a gaming console.
i hooked it up to the tv today and i think im sold on getting a ps3 ;)

just need to budget for it. ahhh...damn these temptations!

so the Fifa bundle on Kalahari is the best option at the moment ?
