Sony Xperia Z & Sony Tablet Z

I just got my new white Sony xperia Z today....loving the device so far. Just thought I would create this thread if someone wants more information about the device (performance, battery life, screen, pics etc etc etc.) before buying it or for whatever reason.

If you have a specific request or question just post it here and will reply as soon as I can.

I was going to take the Z for the waterproof feature then I saw the Galaxy Note 2. Any cool software features on the Z?

Still playing around with the device and discovering its features but so far I have to say I like the small apps (things like a calculator, timer, notepad etc.) as they are kinda usefull. The other things which I'm finding to be pretty impressive is the stamina mode....got my phone at about 2pm today and when I powered it on it was at 65%....now 10+ hours later it is at 26%.....finding this to be very impressive considering the fact that it has not even been charged and I did set up my phone (accounts, contacts, emails etc) and took photos, watched the videos included on the phone, used google maps for directions tonight and tried a few things with the NFC functions. Also liking the SocialLife app which integrates all your social media content.

Many other standard android features are obviously included in the software.

The Sony UI software is somewhat 'minimalistic' and is very clean and smooth. I personally prefer this type of UI. But if you want many many software features then the Samsung note will probably be a better choice

Hope this was useful. If I find any other cool features I will post it.

Edit: The SmartConnect feature is also very nice...you can pre-set and customize commands/actions when you connect the phone to your pc, the charger, docking station, headphones etc etc. For example if I connect my headphones the media volume increased, backlight is dimmed, data is enabled and my notifications are set to silent.

I havent played with the NFC tags yet.....will do that sometime over the weekend

Yes it is Android version 4.1.2

Lol and no I cant get myself to put it in a glass of water.... :p but when and if I eventually do it..I will record it and upload a video haha. My girlfriend has the Xperia V and we dunked it a few times already...kinda fun to do it BUT for about 10 - 20minutes after being dunked in the water the speaker sounds a bit distorted

I really can't accept that the top of the range Sony only has 4.1.2. My boet had the first Sony experia phones and it ended up on 2.3.6. By that the equivalent Samsung was running at least 4.0.4. Why don't Sony at least try to catch up? I really wanted the experia but not at the cost of a old OS.

To be honest 4.1.2 is not old yet and it already contains many of the features of 4.2.2. Apparently the 4.2.2 updates should start rolling out pretty soon according to Sony...buy yeah they are never on time. I do think though Sony has taken a few steps forward with regards to software updates as most of their new lower end devices are running at least ICS whereas some other manufactures only offer 2.3.x or ICS with no JB update whereas even the new low-end Xperia J is receiving jelly bean. I had a xperia arc s, the 2011 xperia range, and it is also running ICS.

One thing I did notice from the sony updates, if you actually receive one, is that it actually has many new features and customizations etc and it is actually noticeable that you have received an update. This is compared phones that family members of mine have, htc and samsung device.

But there is no denying it...sony updates should definitely happen more regularly and on time!!

Can u do a comparison between the Xperia Z and the Xperia V ?

Is it awkward to hold? As in does it fit comfortably in the hand or does the sides dig into the palms as the phone is essentially square and not rounded.

You guys gonna get both?

Well if I'm honest at first it did feel a bit awkward but after a while it felt surprisingly comfortable and even though the device is somewhat large, it doesn't really feel like it and I have average size hands. Ive found it very easy to adaopt to its size lol just after a day's use already my xperia arc s feels way too small and slow haha.

Ive read many reviewers complaining about the square edges digging into your hands but really I have not experienced this once at all. Some people also find the positioning of the power button, together with the volume rocker, to be awkward and difficult to use. Yes, the volume rocker is a bit difficult to press sometimes and think it wouldve been better if they positioned it above the power button...the power button on the other hand feels well placed when you are holding the device and its easy to unlock/lock the screen, take screenshots and power on/off.

Another thing that might take some getting used to is the placement of the speaker as it is easy to over it while holding the device. But then again it only happened once or twice, after that I got used to handling the device. I have found holding the device in my left hand and using my right to navigate the screen and whatnot works perfectly and then the placement of all the buttons suddenly makes perfect sense.

Best thing to do is to ask a Service provider shop nearby if they maybe have a device on display with which you can play around a bit to see how it feels for you.

Another impressive feature is the Sony Bridge desktop software for Mac.

Back up iPhone. Load Sony Bridge. Transfer information across to your Xperia device...

Targeting Apple users? Hell yeah!

Not targeting apple users, but rather to relieve them from the utter boredom that is ios. :p
